ok guys this might seem like a stupid question just say i have 5 20liter buckets 4 for growing one for control say i fill all them with 18 liters of water thats 95 liters of water i would have to mix nutes up in witch would be more expensive than say growing in clay balls with a resuculating system with a 40 liter res would it be worth it or is that way to much water in the dwc buckets.....hope that makes sense

Hi there.

I'm not much a bucket dwc man (thus far) but from what i've seen with others you want the water level more about 3/4 high (15L) to each bucket. Have the water level higher or top feed while they are young and then drop the level a cpl inches below the netpot when the roots are long enough.

As for err trying to cheap out on nutes, well the bigger the res/system the more stable the PH & temps are, as well as lasting longer before needing to be dumped.

Goodluck

Hey Dude, I have 8x 15lt eskies plus 40lt Res, it takes approx 250ml of A&B (500ml) to get it where I want. That's about all I put in for the week, the system uses 10 to 15lts of water a day but I don't top up the nutes everyday. I have to ajust the PH nearly everyday because of the amount of fresh water, usually bugger all 6 down to 5.5. With DWC you don't want to have the nutes too strong. I also run a water chiller, keeps the temp at 18c which apparently is best for oxygen and nute uptake. Once temp goes over 21c you risk root rot. The cost of nutes is well worth it IMO.
