My story

ashka

Question

3 years ago I had a really sore eye ache and went to doctors 3 times only to be told there was nothing wrong and that it was probably from too much sun and sand which I am guilty of as beach it a lot. Only went to doctors thinking I needed a referral to go to optometrist but then found out that I could just walk in a make an appointment. Went to optometrist and within minutes I was putting eye drops in and making arrangements to go to Perth. Eyedrops stopped working very quickly. Had lazer which was super painful for about a week and that failed. Had a lens transplant which was did not go well and vision got blurry straight away. One has to have a lens transplant before a trabeculectomy apparently. Anyway had a trabeculectomy(last option when all else fails) and vision reduced from 70% to 2% as this type of eye operation is risky at the best of times. This all happened within 5 months. Within 18 months it started to hurt again and apparently the trabeculectomy has healed up so needs doing again!!!!!!

Perth is 750 kilometres away so a major effort and must have made well over 15 trips and stayed for weeks.

Many hours spent researching on the net showed the amazing benefits of cannabis on intraocular pressure so as any sane person would do, I started smoking it if I could get some to find it relieved all symptoms of pressure as well as any other ailments. So I started asking doctors, optometrist, opthamologist about trying it and have got a mixed reaction from (oh no think of all the side effects)!!!!!!!!!!! to (yes if you were in USA you would be handed a medical cannabis card instantly) and yes lots of people are having success with cannabis.

Now the opthamologist wants to start the whole process with my other eye.

I feel that I have given western medicine more than a fair go and appreciate their attempts to save my eyesight but would like the opportunity to at least try cannabis as it has been successful for other glaucoma patients. An Australian law is preventing me from trying to retain my remaining eyesight, now that would have to be constitutionally wrong as well as totally inhumane.

I dont want pity, just a fair go.

So as a matter of principle I will fight for the right of people to at least have the opportunity to try cannabis for themselves for whatever illness they suffer.

Reading your story, Ashka, is maddening, Whilst doctors jeapordise patient's health & well-being with questionable medical practice and are largely covered by law for their ineptness any attempt to self medicate yourself will see you as the criminal. The law is wrong!!!

I don't know how we're going to get cannabis de-criminalized when the poiticians are too gutless to debate it for fear of voter backlash. The argument for research into cannabis for medical use is too hard for most pollies. If they were to try to argue for it the bloody do-gooders & self-righteous pricks will scream bloody murder.

Good luck & for fuck's sake don'tlet 'em near the other eye!!!

fuck the doctors off !! smoke pot , it sounds like it works for you , doc's like playing around with diff procedures , if the first one dont work , an they will keep trying (experimenting) diff crap ,

an when that doc said pot causes heaps of side effects ??, i would have said , not as many side effects as the shit use are doing to my eyes , an you dont have to travell as far, for a much easyer better releaf , half the doc's care more about keeping the big pharmacys in buisnes ,

Hassled local doctors yesterday about me using cannabis and testing IOP only to be told no we cannot do that here in WA as it is illegal. She said as far as the law goes smoking a joint at home for medical reasons is similar to drinking a bottle of vodka and driving!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe similar to drinking half a bottle of vodka yes, but not drink driving. What a dumb bitch. Your story has just made me pissed off lol.. Sorry to hear about all your fucking around for no results dude. Piss them doctors off and get a GP who knows what he's talking about

P Blaze... I'm not sure whether to laugh, or just say, oh, shit... another one...

Please, take no offense to this, but I'm sensing a trend,(could be wrong)

I hope your posts in future are better.

Not that most of mine are worth reading.

Carry On.

Oh, and Ash, thats fucked up. And I'm really starting to think that by asking people (docs) for help with medical canna you could be bringing yourself under the attention of our lovely friends in blue :applause:

Just, y'know, make sure everyone of these people is above board and not the type of skeevy fucker to call one of those phone in lines. Thats how my dealer dude got busted recently.

Thanks AJ69, I said that I wanted to go the police and get permission as this hiding around is just ridiculous. She advised me to be very careful of who I approached. I cannot accept this arrogance and will not sit back and be denied the right to experiment with a safe natural plant. And what now inspires me even more is learning about so many suffering people finding relief with cannabis but being forced to hide this. I had a dear friend die of stomach cancer and she wanted to see if cannabis would help her and I did not know anyone to get it from whereas I should have been able to go buy her some over the counter at an outlet.

An outdated law that has to be abolished for compassion reasons is essential if Australia does not want to be exposed as an inhumane society.

Thanks AJ, but I do not see a problem crying out for help as I and many others need this issue addressed. Cannabis is a medicine for a lot of people and I want to see that recognized. And as far as our friends in blue, I have the utmost respect for the police and always have and cannot see why they or anyone else would stop a person from trying to retain their eyesight. Blindness frightens me way more than silly human laws AJ, and I am not doing anything wrong at all by wanting to do everything above board. But thankyou for your concern.
