Black scale- how do I eradicate?

Recommended Posts

auntie norm advised me that velvet soap suds gets rid of this scale ... after I had already successfully used yates bug and scale spray. 'white oil' does the job too. all of these remedies smother the scale. they are not 'chemical'.

but the reason you've got the scale is because yr plant is short of potash and is losing vigour. if it's late in the growing season for you, and you don't want too mess around with nutruents now, you may think about watering yr girls well with a spoonful of molasses in a bucket of water ... which will invigorate them and provide a little potash too ... maybe enough for you to finish the grow. cheers.

Check your ant activity, ants nurse and protect the scale insects, which, tap into the sap of the plant, produce a sweet nectar that the ants love to eat. To stop ants climbing up the plant a little vaseline around the bottom of the trunk will stop them. You can pick and squash the scale if you want or can spray but at this stage I'd be hesitant. If you don't get rid of the scale and ants you will find sooty mould will follow.
