Hydro shops

Recommended Posts

Hey im wanting to start my first grow but im a little nervous about going to the local hydro shop, im 18 however i look like im 12 and this usualy leads to many id checks and dodgy looks.

Id like to know the do's and dont's what I can say and what I cant, and what's the best cover story that's going suit the type of equipment im buying + has anyone had a problems with going to hydro stores?

Thanks in advance!

Generally they aren't going to ask what your buying it for if you just take what you need, if you start asking for advice, they might start asking questions. You can just say tomato or something, they might even know what u really mean and give u some good advice.

There isn't anything illegal about buying a light mate. The hydro shop I now frequent actually sells grinders and stuff too.

Some people like to go in and ask for advice pretending they're growing roses or tomato's. Personally I walk in knowing exactly what I want and don't say or imply what I plan to do with the equipment. That way I don't need to lie about anything.

As for your age, it's not a bottleshop!

ok thanks for the advice guys, I needed id to buy a goldfish which I thought was amusing and I thought I would check just encase :D i think if they did ask for id id just walk out.

as for not paying by card thats not a problem, but any idea how much cash i should have on me to buy a full set-up? (money isn't an issue) im growing in a walk in wardrobe, seperating it in half with timber and drywall and blackout material for a makeshift door, grow space is roughly 3m wide and 2m depth.

Thanks for the help! :D

Have at look at some online hydro shops/eBay to get an idea what you'll be paying or phone the shop in advance and ask them the prices before you go so you know roughly how much to take.

Every hydro shop I've been in basically assumes that you are growing pot unless you make a point of saying otherwise. They don't ask and they don't expect an explanation as to why you are buying equipment. A good store employee can give you the best advice without ever mentioning what you are growing.

Do a bit of research on what you want, e.g have a look at what other members setups are like etc. Research and plenty of reading is the key. Once youve got a list together, just go in and buy it. You wont get asked any questions.

Goodluck

everything that Convex said is spot on the money. Don't stress, the hydro shop owner / staff are going to avoid asking questions unless you urge them on. As they won't want to drive away customers by probing them too much. If anything coming in and blurting out its for your tomatoes or something similar will do one of two things

1) make them realise you are new and rort you (notice many things dont have prices on the shelves, there is a reason)

2) you will sound like you are growing pot as someone not doing anything sus wouldn't feel the need to justify themselves.

But in all honesty i found the local store owners to be extremely helpful, and as jimbo says they can tell you exactly what you need to know without ever even mentioning the good green herb :D
