$150 drug deal could cost gran all her assets

An Innaloo grandmother found guilty of selling cannabis for the third time in a decade stands to have her assets seized under WA's criminal property laws.

Rolande, 57, who asked that her surname remain confidential, was found guilty in December of selling 14g of cannabis to a friend for $150.

She faces losing about $150,000 worth of assets left by her late father, after the Director of Public Prosecutions Joseph McGrath refused a request for leniency.

Rolande admitted yesterday she was "no angel" but insisted she had turned over a new leaf and was not a drug dealer. "I stopped pot maybe 12 months ago now," she said. "I'd given it up. I'd changed my life."

But in August, Rolande said she found 14g of cannabis in a cupboard. When a sick friend called trying to find cannabis, she relented. "Because she was diagnosed with throat cancer I thought I was doing the right thing," she said.

Rolande's lawyer, Justine Fisher, said that in delivering his verdict Perth magistrate Joe Randazzo had noted the sale was a one-off transaction, and that the motivation was to benefit a friend with a medical condition.

A spokeswoman for Mr McGrath said the Act's provisions were clear.

Nice country we live in where you commit a victimless 'crime' (how can you have a crime without a victim?) and Big Brother steals your house, yet commit murder, rape theft etc and get slap on the wrist or a bit of gaol time?

Can we just wipe out all the bullshit they've foisted on us over the last 200 years and start again please?

(p.s. doe anyone know the case details? I'd sure like to read the transcript to make sure those media jerks aren't giving us the run around again.)
