Baked as stoner lighting question :p

Recommended Posts

ok pretty baked right now so ideas are going nuts...

after reading some stuff about plant photosynsthiss or somthing liek that it got me thinking...

casue you get the problem of light not getting to the lower branches of the plant, what about having a light shining up from underneath it so it hits the lower leafs?

would it help in anyway to provide the planty with more light?

could be done if your plants are raised up off the ground somehow :P

Hi Jester,

I've seen it done before, with a light on the floor shining up underneath a SCROG. But the results were less than satisfying. Unless your gunna have a 1000watts above and 1000watts below, the lower bud won't develope to a decent result. You'd be better placing 2000w above

Also a light on the floor can be very dangerous. Electricity and water not good. A......lets say, aquaintance (Dickhead more to the point)anyway, had his ballasts on the floor.

He had resivoir on a platform, the platform let go, the resi crashed to the ground and soaked it all, damn near killing him and his kids. He told me all about this as a big joke.

If you concentrate on and nuture whats above the scrog you'll do fine. Personally, I strip everything out from under my scrog, clean, no leaf, no shoots, nothing. Just stems to the crowns. The heads under the scrog are scrappy and I don't want the goodness going into 'popcorn', so I get rid of it prior to going 12/12 then all the goodness goes to the crown heads.

Just some ideas

hey merlo.

Dont you worry that by taking all them lower leaves that your plants wont be able to breathe as much co2 from the air?

And wont soak up any of the secondary light that penetrates the canopy or reflects around it?

Just skeptical... I mean I have been burned by the merlin-method before when my basement flooded...

This guy has like a 270 degree led setup, its pretty sweet, all home made from top end leds...

You could add some led panels as side lighting along with a HPS.

Agree with Merl1n though on removing the popcorn buds and lower branches, I tend to leave most of the fan leaves though; a good SOG no need for additional lighting really :)

Hey Pleb,

'Just skeptical... I mean I have been burned by the merlin-method before when my basement flooded...' Bullshit you got burnt by MY method.

Nowhere in my method did I tell you to flood your damn basement, that was your own doing. You need to watch what you are doing and no flooding would occur. Blaming me cos you didn't follow instructions, That's your own fault, NOT MINE. :wallbash: :wallbash:

So Pleb, don't YOU put a light on the floor. It won't be safe when YOU flood YOUR basement :crybaby:

As for stripping the underneath, even with a white painted floor for reflection under the SCROG the light penetration is minimal and the density of my scrog lets bugger all light penetrate anyway. I find 'Popcorn' disappointing and a waste. Why bother? remove it all and be done with it, more goodness for the crowns. The leaves that don't get much light turn yellowish, so their photosynthesis is minimal anyway. I don't remove the leaves from above the SCROG as they are absorbing the light.

take it easy merlo,

I've been stripping some lower branches that are in constant shade, and am considering stripping much more next grow, which will be a scrog. Im just researching in advance.

but...

what about the extra foliage supplying the plant with more surface area for breathing air/co2 in?

is it true that the lower, older leaves have their sugars.neuts stripped by the plant to feed the growing buds?

what would jimbojones say about the striping lower branches technique?

can I send merlin a bill for the water damage to my basement?
