NSW police seize cannabis worth $2.73m

March 5, 2011 - 1:04PM

AAP

About $2.73 million in cannabis has been seized by police during a five-day cannabis eradication program on the north coast of NSW.

Strike Force Unwin - which includes detectives from the Drug Squad's Cannabis Team - began on Monday February 28 and ended on Friday March 10 with police targeting various areas including Piggabeen, Chillingham and surrounding areas.

During the week 1365 cannabis plants were found and seized by police during the operation.

Police will conduct a number of similar raids over the next few months in an effort to target cannabis cultivation.

"You won't know where or when we'll strike, but we've got your crops in our sights," Drug Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Nick Bingham said.

"Our aim is to detect and destroy cannabis crops across the state.

"Whether it's a semi-rural crop or on a steep mountainside in a remote part of the state, there's a very high chance police will find it. If you think you're safe growing cannabis then think again," the detective said.

The NSW Police Cannabis Eradication Program has been running since the mid-1980s.

To date, Strike Force Unwin officers have seized plants with a total estimated potential street value of $24.5 million.

The plants have been destroyed by police.

Moronic is all I can say, I wonder how many million taxpayer dollars went into this operation? Maybe that is why they inflate the value of crops so much? because if they don't pull out more than they spend they will lose the support of the sheeple who only see dollar signs. :scratchin:

What a national disgrace for our police force to be targeting ourdoor grown cannabis when the streets are full of methamphetamines. This is only what the young ones tell me and as a parent I would much rather them have a joint then a man made concocted chemical timebomb.

another overlooked fact is the pursuit of outdoor Cannabis plants only drives the growers indoors where electricity has to be used at great cost to the environment with all the asssociated polluting side-effects >:(

so how does that 'help' the community porky

Yeah but if we use electricity indoors at least in their minds they are getting the $$$ from the electricity bills so thats better than us utilising free energy. Look at the solar energy scheme people put multiple big ass solar panels on their roofs but they dont get to use the energy they create they have to put it back into the grid and they receive a "discount". Every house has the capacity to power itself with natural free energy. But now we are heading into Nikola Tesla territory and the Govt. couldn't have that now could they.

so 'they' reckon its better to pump out tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by using electricity to grow my weed rather than use the free sunlight? .. hows that work?.

Every house has the capacity to power itself with natural free energy.

is that right, sorry for the silly question but how can i do that without spending thousands of $ for solar panels, batteries etc (which dont have the capacity to run hps lights anyway)?

Ive also enclosed a picture of my beautiful house which has taken me decades to pay off :applause:

Yes they CAN power a HPS, is it feasible to do so? No it is not, a $20,000 setup is barely able to handle the draw of a 1000w HPS, let alone run it for any considerable period of time .

And thats not taking into account any other appliances you need to run off it.

The easiest way to successfully run a setup off the grid is a big diesel genset, which poses its own problems.

Now how the heck did we get on this topic?
