polinating a plant from fem seed = hermies?

Recommended Posts

hey welcome up Chronicon :peace:

pollinating a plant that came from femininized seeds would the chance of hermies be in the gene pool

in short, yes

so-called Femminised seeds and seeds produced from intersex (Hermophradite) females do carry the trait of intersexuality and will throw that trait to subsequent generations

as to what % will actually bring the intersex trait to the fore is impossible to say ,

perhaps none will show, it can come down to factors such as stress to the plant in its growing environment such as, irregular or interrupted photoperiod, extreme heat/cold, etc

this is my opinion from researching the topic of intersex plants, im not a botanist though

opinions are like a#@%holes everyone has one lol

I think Frazz pretty much covers it :scratchin:

I have been breading from a female (non feminised) that hermies under extreme stress, have crossed her over 6 other strains and used her too self pollinate, have yet to have one of her offspring go hermie, although I haven't really stressed any of them to find their limits.

On the other end of the scale I have some self pollinated WW seeds that about 30% of go hermie under normal conditions, as far as I know the original stock was from feminised seed.

So I guess it's partly luck of the draw, partly genetic predisposition.

The other thing being that there is a difference between a true hermaphrodite plant and a plant that produces some male flowers when stressed. A true hermaphrodite will produce both female and male flowers separately, this is now quite rare in seeds from seedbanks as usually the trait has been nearly eliminated from their genetic line. The other sort, more common, is the plants that will pop a few bananas in amongst the female flowers if they are stressed (it works the same for both sexes but I'll ignore males to keep it simple), these are not true hermies but can cause all sorts of trouble all the same, they are also what most seedbanks use to breed feminised seed from, rather than true hermies.

Hope that makes sense???

cheers guys, and yes makes sense hehe =)

is just some awesome strains are fem but im only wanting breeders so i can make my own strains and will have a good range of diff weed and wont have to buy seeds hehe (but mainly the fun in making my own strains) :)

so i guess i wont be including feminised into my gene pools =)
