Contemplating 1st grow - EXCITED

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. Need advice from these awesome community experts!

Facts:

Never grown before.

Live in Adelaide suburbia.

I'm thinking of growing 1 plant (outdoor?) - seeing as I can have up to 1 plant here (if God forbid I get caught) without incrimination.

I'll be using it only for myself so don't need a big yield.

I'm thinking of ordering say 10 seeds of a strain that will:

1. Give a small to average yield.

2. Grow well without any extra crazy hydro input or lighting.

3. Is mainly Sativa.

4. Can be harvested without growing higher than 2m over my fence.

5. Will still produce quality buds that are true to the strain.

Is this possible? Need I make any concessions?

Also:

Do I HAVE to wait until spring?

Is growing only 1 plant possible or wise?

Thanks guys! I'll look forward to some replies.

hey man welcome to OS

your goal isn't as far off as you think! just 1 plant is easy to conceal and is defiantly worth the experience!

ill give you my 2 cents on how you can grow in suburban SA ive been growing in the suburbia for years with no hassles if you play it right!

1:

if your after a small plant that is perfect for some major guerrilla growing defiantly look into the auto flower range as this will keep your plant easily under 2 meters whilst still maintaining true quality buds! Small yield outdoors :sleepyhead:

(though if you only have 1 plant i would stick away from this option as many auto flowers are temperamental and exposed to becoming male or stuffing up due to outdoor conditions)

2:

Growing Outdoors is simple! if you do your research that is! practice is the only thing that will make your buds bigger and better, with it being easy to stay away from hydroponic setups..

3:

You say your after a sativa dominate strain, im assuming because of the uplifting social high :applause:

unfortunately sativas grow long and tall, not perfect for suburban growing... i have a 100% sativa growing this year in the suburbs and i have had to train the living shit out of it to keep it down, its quite the pain! i would go for a 50/50 mix of sativa/indica as indicas are known to remain shorter and you could easily get a small bush(with lst and topping) that would remain under 2 meters whilst having numerous colas to give you quite a decent yield and great buds!

(Lst refers to low stress training, i would look up topping and LST as its an essential part to outdoor growing)

As for the seasons, your out of luck for a full outdoor grow this season as were coming into flowering season as we speak! so wait for the end of November to get your seeds in the ground ;)

As for strains i would look around to find one that is short in height yet takes your breath away ;)

Hopefully this helps dude, always up for the cause to help outdoories get under way :peace:

and never tell people about your outdoor crop! :D

G'day Josh. What the brother said is spot on, good advice. Now, are you going to grow in pots or the ground? Both have advantages and disadvantages. In the ground if you grow sativa you can get monster plants, I grow sativa and have one about 8ft tall, she is a big girl. I have no experience with indica. Downside, you can't move 'em. So plan carefully, an eastern facing aspect that has a lot of north in it is ideal. Close to a water tank and you have a free heat sink. As soon as mine are cut I start work on my soil to get ready for next year. Pots can be moved to take advantage of the weather or to stash 'em, handy. But pots will usually give you a smaller plant. If you do this, get the biggest things you can find. Old washing machine tubs and 44 gallon drums cut in half, with lots of drainage holes are best. No canna plant likes to be root bound. Potting mix is ok just add compost (1/4 by volume), and all the other goodies like lime, blood and bone, potash and trace elements and your are away. Mulch is necessary it helps to keep the roots cooler and maintains moisture. Whether in pots or the ground, lots of water, but make sure you have great drainage, pots are good here. Here in Victoria I plant my seed around Melb. Cup Day and harvest around Easter. Any thing else I can help with, no trouble.
