wettest mulch

hi all, just wondering if anyone would know wat the most water absorbent mulch is, that is wat holds the most amount of water and moisture?

well coir peat holds a power of water, so does vcermiculite ...

Brunnings Easy Wetta mulch is humus based with addition of water absorbent granules, never used it myself but its prolly ok too

You dont wan't your mulch to stay wet as it is not good for mold. If you must, you could always put absorbent crystals through something like lucerne mulch or mushroom compost.

ok thanks guys i never really thought about mold build up, i might just stick with some water crystals and peat or mushroom compost, but that easy wetta mulch might be worth a look into too.

yep, you don't want wet mulch! wet growing medium yes, mulch no. besides mould wet mulch will rob nitrogen from yr soil to use to rot itself down.

 

I consider mulch to be stuff that keeps the sun off the ground to reduce evaporation ... and not soil food! it should not be thick. if you've put it on thick give it some urea so it won't use up the nitrogen in yr soil.
