Nimbin raids

Managed to get a bit of media coverage of the raids on Nimbin

Up to 50 police have swooped on Nimbin on the state's north coast in an operation to eradicate cannabis, a local pro-cannabis group claims.

The Cannabis Coalition - a recently formed group seeking to field candidates for the upcoming state election - reported on Saturday that Nimbin was "under attack" from about 50 police and their sniffer dogs.

"For a town of some 300 people, it's quite ridiculous to have them all up here. There are usually just eight or nine police stationed in Nimbin," said Macciza Macpherson, a spokesman for the Cannabis Coalition.

"There are also reports that three entrances to the town are blocked," he said.

Mr Macpherson said it was part of a cannabis eradication campaign by the police who have moved up the coast over the past week.

Police confirmed they were in Nimbin on Friday and Saturday as part of a joint operation with the RTA and Immigration Department.

The RTA have been doing vehicle checks and immigration checks were also being carried out.

The police were focussed on drug checks and had two sniffer dogs.

Sorry tp stray off topic a little, but eight or nine officers would be regarded as a heavy police presents in most metro and regional areas, especially if the local population only consists of 300 residents.

There's one report I caught once that the Queensland State Government was content with one officer per 700 people. Even though I've lived in various country towns that has had 2000 to 5000 locals and yet only 2 to 4 officers to handle the towns criminal/traffic activities.

If those figures are correct (above that is quoted), Nimbin is surely getting shafted and the rest of the population of New South Wales should be informed of it. If other areas that have a heavier and more serious crime rate knew about it, there'd be some seriously pissed off law abiding residents watching their own suburbs go to shit. While police resources appear to be going to watse in Nimbin (mostly).

No its too easy to hassle the pot smokers overlook the hard drugs (that screw peoples minds and lives) and the Courts are just as bad.........Let a "Kiddy-Fiddler" out of jail and get them a department of housing house near a school and then look the other way!!!......and I wonder how many of those 50 cops got on the piss and celebrated their "BIG OPERATION" then drove home!!............Poor ol Nimbin just because they are open about their lifestyle

i agree hotrod, i been to nimbin a couple times in the past couple months, never seen any trouble there, no people punching on in the streets or anything like that, just friendly folk who are more than happy to stop and have a good ol' chinwag, why dont they focus their efforts hitting the crack heads and junkies in the cross instead of wasting everyones time and pissing EVERYONE off when i couldnt imagine the crime rate in nimbin to be overly high, just the typical cop shit flexing their muscles trying to let everyone know who's incharge. oh well hopefully its all over now and things can get back to normal there, definatly going to be a bit hairy when i go grab my medicine next week :\

Well they probably do have other stuff to do and I would imagine some of them don't want to be there but orders are orders and they go where they are told.

Funny in the news, there are a lot of cops from the east coast going to Christchurch to help out and people here are really bitching about not having enough cops to look after their suburbs as it is.

So they waste another 50 by sending them to Nimbin.

Such a waste of man power. They should be in Byron cleaning up the streets there.

Frustrating this kind of shit.:wallbash:

50 police for two days would have to cost tax payers 20 maybe even 30 grand just in wages (although I'm probably being way to conservative). Then on top of that if you consider operational costs, like petrol, hotels, food and travel allowances for the police that had to be brought in.

Already that'd be enough money for a family to live of for a year. That's without even considering the longterm costs to society from the small fries arrested in the operation who now get dragged though the prison industrial system, which will further disadvantage them. Most of these people are probably already extremely afflicted individuals, usually suffering from homelessness and/or a serious mental illness. How is society better off by having these people arrested, jailed, eaten alive then put back on the street in a worse state of mind than what they started?

The whole operation was imo out right fraud! They took a large sum of money from the tax payer, under the pretense they were attempting to eradicating cannabis, even though they knew full well it wasn't realistic or in the best interest of the community. It was done simply as a propaganda media stunt for the own personal benefit of the NSW government and/or police. How is that not fraud?

I don't really let this crap get me angry anymore (except with the issue of denying the seriously ill medical cannabis, that's just inhumane). The global "war on drugs" is already over anyway, the US government lost! There like hitler at the end of world war two, the fighting is still going on, but there locked away in the bunker contemplating about what they perceive as the most dignified way to concede defeat.

Mexico is on the verge of collapse because of the drug cartels who are the main suppliers of the largest illegal drug market in the world and who make up to 60% of there profits just from cannabis. That makes it just a matter of time before the US government is forced into some sort of revolutionary change. The Mexican government collapsing would unstablize the US and crush them economically, so allowing the Mexican government to fall is clearly not a option for the US. Medical cannabis is just the start.

Then you've got the American industrial prison complex which is also on the verge of collapse, especially in califonia who's jails are bursting at the seems. Which has already started to force the Californian government to go though the current process of normalizing the cannabis plant, which will obviously normalize it in hollywood. From there all it takes is for one of those jokers on CSI (or whatever) to go to a dispensary after a hard day working on some psychotic murder case, instead of the pub. Then cannabis will end up being socially accepted by the majority of the Hollywood obsessed western culture.

Probably ranting now. But that's situation as it stands.

Peace
