Harvesting but not wanting to Kill off Plant

Hello All, Excuse this newbie question but if one had an outdoor plant & come harvest time didnt want to kill it would the plant still survive if the main trunk was cut say 10cm from the base leaving just the first rim of outer branches or generally speaking would the shock be to much. Assuming the plant is a feamle & very healthy & about 1m tall & nearly 1m wide & only 3mths old.

I've seen other species survive from similiar harsh attacks & knowing how hungry & vigorious these are I wondered if they would survive.

Many thanks

Many Thanks, I'm in Sydney & frosts are a Big part of winter & to top it off I don't know what strain I've got but I do believe it is an indoor variety (rx it as a small cutting). To try & increase it's survival I think I will try & strike a cutting for indoors & cut the main trunk & cover in plastic when winter approaches.

Once again many thanks
