My grow room! needs help on ze lighting!

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies and gentlemen!

I have just ordered some seeds and this means i have to get my grow room (or grow box as i like to call it) underway!

http://i56.tinypic.com/2502d7q.jpg

I need information on lighting, i have read through lots of articles on the net but i have not come to a solid conclusion as to what lights, what wattage and how many and where to put them!

this is the hole at the end of the cupboard that will be used for ventilation http://i56.tinypic.com/33n9k3n.jpg

this is the cupboard itself http://i54.tinypic.com/wlq2xc.jpg

so basically i have approximately $300 to spend on lighting and other supplies

im going to assume that i should cover the space in mylar (correct me if i am wrong)

I also need to know what should i do in regards to temperature and humidity,

***edit***

The space of the cupboard is 170 X 45CM and 60CM high

I know its alot to ask of you all and I should do some more reading (which i will) but any information at this time specific to my situation would be appreciated

thankyou in advance

Sorry I cant really be of more help to ya, but your area isnt very high so that pretty much rules out HID lights (HPS, MH) which are by far the best performers. Your area is very wide so im guessing you will have to go with 2 or more lights.. You can pick up 130w fluro grow lights on ebay for about 80 - 90 bux, these are ok for vegging small plants and you can flower under them but most people think you dont get very good yields from them... If you wanted to be the entrepeneur grower you could invest in a couple of good LED grow lights...? But dont get the el-cheapo ones and the results from these are also skeptical... If it were me, I would try and get a taller cupboard or something and maybe go a 250w HPS...? For one of these I reckon you would want a space atleast 1.3 metres high. And also for 300 bux you will be able to get some lights to grow some plants but dont know how good of a setup it will be... Be good enough for a bit of fun and a bit of personal smoke I guess :) also forgot to mention if you go fluro you will have to get 2 sets of bulbs, 2700K for flowering and 6400K for veg im pretty sure, and there are also 250w fluros and some nice new philips 80w fluros that pack a good punch if you can find them. Good luck mate!

Hi Joey

I can't see the pics

For heat and humidity you need a fan

That space ain't big but you need height 60cm high but 170 long? can you put your cupboard on its side

Use the calculators provided to work out air exchange rates (fan size) and lighting for your area

Edit

Shit in the time it took me to type this out Burnz has said it all and I concur

eww its so manky in there :sick

Are you growing in soil?

300 is a small budget so maybe skip the mylar and put up white plastic or paint it white.

Burnz is right you need more hieght if you can swing it... looks like your only going to try a couple of plants which wont need all that horizontal space (170), but will struggle with the low vertical space (60)

HID lights in that area I think would need a cooltube to keep the heat down, and HID light + cooltube + duct + fan is gunna blow your budget out... so go the compact fluros... cooler and cheaper (except on power consumption)

I would avoid LED lights

Does that vent go outside or just in the wall cavity? :scratchin:

Good luck :freak:

Thanks for the replys guys its been much help to me

From what you have all told me the height is going to be an issue so i have moved some things around underneath and i am going to use a new area, that has about 65cm across and 1.5meters in height, what sort of light would you suggest for me to use

thanks again, joey
