Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Can some-one please tell me when the NSW Police service became the NSW Police force??..

I think all cops are part of the biggest armed gang in the world, and it's legal for them, but i don't remember the NSW coppers becoming a "force" (to be reckoned with do they meanscratchchin.gif ) ? it was always the NSW police service.. When did this happen and how did i miss that one??

Big difference between being called a service and a force scratchchin.gif

The Force is with the police again

May 5, 2006 - 3:18PM

The NSW police are once more a force to be reckoned with.

In the past it's been called the NSW Police Force, the NSW Police Service, plain old NSW Police and now its about to become the NSW Police Force again.

NSW Premier Morris Iemma today used the graduation of 153 new officers from the Police Academy at Goulburn to announce NSW Police would revert to its old name.

The Police Force was renamed the Police Service in 1990 by the former coalition government when uniformed police officers and the civilian Police Department were integrated.

Then in 2002, the Labor government persuaded parliament to change the name to NSW Police.

Mr Iemma announced the latest name change after saying police would be given new powers to break down the fortified premises of criminal gangs.

"My government will continue to give (the police) the powers, equipment and training they need to do their jobs," he said in a statement.

"I want our police to know they have the community's full support as a tough, no nonsense organisation that is to be respected by everyone."

Under the new laws, which are primarily targeted at bikie gangs, courts will be able to order the removal of fortified structures around premises such as fencing and reinforced doors.

Police will be able to forcibly remove structures from premises when tenants do not comply with court orders.

They will also be able to dismantle alarm and surveillance systems before executing search warrants and block drains to prevent gangs from flushing away evidence.

Opposition Leader Peter Debnam announced in January that a coalition government would rename NSW Police the NSW Police Force.

Today, he said he hoped the name change would signal the end of 11 years of "softly-softly politically correct policing" under Labor.

"If 'Police Force' sends a stronger message to thugs and criminals, I think that's good," Mr Debnam told reporters.

Fair Dinkum MM blink.gif !!

Thanks for the update, i was pretty slow with that one..

Only ever call them pigs and avoid them like the plague. Friggen politicians in NSW of all sides have sucked for years.. They've been using every election for years to create a false sense of panic amongst the ignorant and the elderly, so they can increase their police FORCE and POWERS.

It's been proven that the perception of fear of being a victim of crime, is more real than anyone actually having anything happen to them. Fear mongering bastards, pollies and pigs hope they all drop off.

Sorry for rant.

Thank- you for info' smile.gif
