Centrifugal Fan

Recommended Posts

sup growers,

Im considering spending $170 on a centrifugal fan (150mm canfan), and wanted to get some advice before hand.

Should I get a can fan brand? (more expensive?)

My grow tents temperature sits around 31 - 33 degrees at day, and down to 23 degrees at night. Is this too hot for my plants?

The outside temperature is 5 to 10 degrees cooler. There are hotter days ahead.

Some details of my growroom...

I have 2x 150mm inline fans, one for intake one for output plus 1x household oscillating fan in the tent.

All fans run 24/7.

The intake comes from a window, thru a mesh screen, then 6m of duct, then the inline fan.

The output goes thru an inline fan, then 6m of duct then a carbon filter.

The tent is 1.4m x 1.4m x 2m. Tent has 3x 150mm airduct ports. Its in a basement type area and around it on 2 sides are concrete walls, the other sides are timber/gyprock walls packed with insulation batts.

No clearence above tent to ceiling.

I run a flood/drain table so the plants are up off the ground by 500mm.

Is there a cheaper option to get the temp down?

Can I change the placement of the existing fans to increase air flow?

Should I remove the CF until I hit flowering and really need it?

Thanks in advance

Removing the CF will certainly improve flow and thus temperatures if your strain produces little or no odour during veg.

If you can afford the $170 I'd certainly shell out for the bigger fan as you are going to need it come flowering time to pull more airflow through the CF.

Try pulling the air through the CF rather than pushing through it, as you might find this drops the temps a fair bit due improved flow. You might like to do this before shelling out for a more powerful fan.

Can you let us know the brand of fan you are planning on buying?

Thanks for the feedback.

What brand? I thought can fan was the brand? (newbie)

The type of fan im looking at is...

CAN FAN RS 150 INLINE DUCT FAN 65WATT CENTRIFUGAL

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CAN-FAN-RS-150-INLINE-DUCT-FAN-65WATT-CENTRIFUGAL-/400174147042?pt=AU_Seed_Starting_Hydroponics&hash=item5d2c3ce5e2

The strain is White Widow.

The heat is comming from the HID light, 400W MH. Temps wont drop below 31 until lights out.

Light is about 2 feet from plants/thermometer.

300mm centri is out of my budget, and im not sure if you can connect that to 150mm air ports? :scratchin:

I disconnected the CF, temps dropped maybe 1 degree...

When you say 'try pulling the air thru the CF' the CF seems to only have an outlet on one side, I can only push air into it.

The CF is just outside the grow area, under the house. Venting outside is not really an option as I have close neighbours on both sides with 2 story houses. I am trying to use the basement area as a secondary air buffer after the CF. My mate has the same CF and has 6 WW in bud, and you can still smell it a bit after the CF.

31 degrees is not too bad btw, not ideal but ambient temps in my parts are that most of summer. They will naturally drink shit loads of water in higher temps, provided that is available you generally don't have many problems. Add high humidity to the mix though and you'll battle mould.

If you don't really want to buy another fan, just run with it as is and turn the lights off for 4-6hours between 11am and 5pm, which should knock out the hottest part of the day, and then flower through the night.

Try a 150mm plastic westflex centrifugal fan, mount on top of tent then run the 150mm duct up to where you want to exhaust the air and mount carbon filter there, use a 250mm x 500mm Carbon filter but use adapter rings to size down to duct size. This means less velocity of air as it upsizes into the filter, meaning it's a lil quieter. I take it you have a tent, it's the 150mm size restriction I have too.

"When you say 'try pulling the air thru the CF' the CF seems to only have an outlet on one side, I can only push air into it."

lol .I think he meant You can mount the carbon filter in the grow area and turn your fan around so it pulls through it. Only need one hole for that.

Goodluck, Good ventilation with good Centrifugal fans is essential especially if running in summer, need that good fresh air for co2 the plants will want when temps rise. :peace: Gh72

Thanks for your help guys...

My CF takes a 150mm duct x 500mm long, i dont want to buy another. I could move the CF inside the tent tho and suck thru it. Space is limited tho.

I have no clearence above my tent, the 150mm ducting is squashed down and you can see its shape thru the ceiling of the tent.

Good idea about using the middle of the day as the dark period, but the heat isnt really comming from outside, its comming from the grow light... even at night the temp is 31. :crybaby:

I checked out the westaflex plastic centri but its even more expensive? Mr hopper?

thats chicken feed partner :xcited:

wait, you say I should get a westaflex over the canfan? pay more for the poxy looking plastic instead of less for the hardcore metal one? similar flowrates and wattage  Aw i dunno... and i just blew 200 bucks on seeds and neuts... but i sure am stressen over my poor girls roasting...
