I'm fond of pointing out that all else being equal, 1x 100w light source has a much deeper penetrating depth and effective efficiency in terms of lumens to leaves, thatn 100x 1w light sources, simply due to fundamental physics.

 

The real humdinger tech which could change things is HEP lighting. (high efficiency plasma) It's early days for that but I don't doubt for a second it will eventually be turned towards indoor gardens. Ceravision
