Not a question but a warning to new growers (LED Lighting)

After hearing from experienced ozstoner growers about how leds and clfs don't cut it when it comes to flowering i went and tried both. SILLY SILLY FU--ING ME. to any new growers trying to find there feet don't just go by the bulls--t led adds just bite the power bill bullet get a good hps setup and enjoy growing. if only i could roll back time and money but i guess that go's 4 most things.

LED's offer a low buget solutionton solution to a new grower raising seeds or keeping plants on 24/0 (ie clones and /or keepers). Definately "flop syndrome" when going to 12/12 with LED's faining with in 4 weeks. Just when the plant comes out of preflower and within about 1 week from what I have seen and heard around the traps.

 

I'm going to do a trial in the new year with clonesand only using a 90 w LED. I'm confident of achieviing my goals that don't include using LED's for 12/12. The problem is you st4ill need an HPS light (no ones ever dispense of the great all rounder "HPS"). My adviucefor ayone serious about' growing-well' is to opt for a HPS.

true leds and cfls work for veg, only thing i was trying to say was to watch out for those adds saying stuff like a 90w led could replace a 400w hps and stuff like that, like on ebay as an example. i did shame on me. the leds and cfls just dont have the coverage or penetration of a hps for larger plants. i had 2 130w cfls a 90w led and a 130w led in my 1.2m by 1.2m grow tent replaced them with a 600w hps and the results just blew me away.

I was tempted to try the LED panels in lieu of the HPS. trouble is... as a sparky.. my brain just couldn't compute how there could possibly be enough lumens in LED's to flower with. I reckon in a little clones box they'd probably be ok though..

 

Having said that.... I thought the UFO style would be convenient in a smaller cupboard. Trouble is, I don't like buying 240V electrical stuff from china, and don't fancy having to order from U.S and get a step-up tranny to run it.

 

My head says try it.... but my heart says I'd be wasting my time.

perfect summary. The only thing stopping me is the over-saturation of chinese crap on the market.

Hey Heeso sounds like good advice. How did you find the leds on their own for vegging small seedlings? Were they still for a lack of a better word crap? I use a 200w ppl sometimes for little seedlings but even with all those watts it only throws a small footprint and isnt half as usefull as a 400w mh. Cheers
