First grow and little problem with soil preparation

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, i just began my first grow. I got 2 little seedlings and 5 more seeds to come. Im planning to grow indoor in soil/coco mix. I have been reading this forum for very long and i found most of answers to my questions under the search button :). But now im stuck with my decision about the growing medium.

At the beginning i thought about growing in coco peat with a little bit of mix of horse and duck manure and perlite. But during my research i found some opinions that coco is not too good and some people prefered potting mixes... I have been growing plants in my life previously but i never really like potting mixes, they get very "ugly" after while and they look very arid...

So i was thinking about perparing this little mixture: ( I need around 35 liters of medium)

1)2 bricks of coco peat (around 15 liters)

2)Potting mix (15 liters)

3)Perilte (5 liters)

4)Little bit of mannure mixture

Have anyone try something similar? Whats yours opinion as a experienced grower?

And if anyone could suggest what potting mix i should use? From those usually available at bunnings...

Thanks to everyone!

Hi DW.

DW....So i was thinking about perparing this little mixture: ( I need around 35 liters of medium)

1)2 bricks of coco peat (around 15 liters)

2)Potting mix (15 liters)

23)Perilte (5 liters)

4)Little bit of mannure mixture

I'd tend to leave out the poo ! Coco/perlite 70/30 with good drainage is cool................. the rason for dropping the poo is;

1) that the micro organisms in the poo ant all good ones

2) While being a valuble source of nitrogen there will be plenty in your feed/mix solution any hows,

Just my thoughts

Grow well DW

Hey i get what you saying, i was worried about this microflora/fauna as well, but solution i came up with was: spreading manure mix flat on heat resitnent surface and treating it with heat gun. This heatgun can produce around 700C degrees and that could kill all the bacteria...

But another concern is that this big amount of heat is big source of potential energy, that could break down all the nitrite/nirate compounds as well as others, and the good bacteria as well of course. :(

Thats where im stuck as well... I want to use organic stuff to make my plants healthy :)
