Soz Greeny if i came on a bit strong but the reality of the situation is this.

Big Corporations run the world, these corporations have interests in things like oil, mining, industry. If you think for one second that any of these wankers give a shit about the enviroment :wallbash: , they may make a token Gesture every now and again but the reality is they own the governments maybe not directly but they do. No pure Hydrogen car will ever be put into mass production(I mean real production , replacing current technology, not some dinky prius offering at twice the price of a normal car) because oil companies and car manufacturers say when it's time to change, and they haven't finished milking the planet yet.

I mean look at the worlds carbon targets for countries, everyone is dodging it, because everyone knows the price on their economy from reducing carbon in an industrialised/ mining driven country. It's a joke.

If the human race is ever going to evolve into a race that uses it's technologies for the good of the people and not as a tool for greed and wealth, the monitary system needs to be abandoned altogether. there will never be signifigant change as long as money is the key factor and major motivation of people in positions of power.

but thats a whole other story......................The funny thing is we think we have to save the planet, but it's us that needs saving, we are the parasite that resides on the earth, bit like a tape worm. The earth will be here long after we are gone and forgotten and nature always finds a way to repair herself. The earth is also in a state of constant change and who are we who have inhabited it's surface for a few piddly thousand years compared to it's hundreds of millions of years to say anything about it's ability to self heal. :peace: Gh72

Agree with much of that, but do you propose we all stick our heads in the sand and pretend everything is sweet?

I want to see change, so I will live my life trying to make those changes.

IMO i think that people are slowly waking up to how corrupting consumerism is and that in time we will transition to a more balanced socioeconomic model.

In the mean time I think one of the best tools for change we have is to spend our $ responsibly and live our lives in the way we want the world to be.

The private sector is already responding to these signals as seen by the rapid uptake of sustainability reporting and corporate social responsibilty.

10 years ago this shit wasnt even considered, now it is becoming mainstream and first movers are being financially rewarded.

I think all right thinking individuals want change to happen Greeny =) even me . lol .

We can all do as much as we can for a greener planet in our own small way.

Greed is a human trait that dates back to when the only thing we had to be protective of was food. Didn't take long for early man to figure out if you control the source of food, you control the others and become the leader, every ones gotta eat.

Money is just an extension of that power.

Consumerism will not fade away, people are never happy with what they have, they always want more or something different, it is a great trait for the advancement of Knowledge through learning but will be our downfall through never being satisfied/ content with what we have.

You have some very good points Greeny and I am sorry I am so opinionated on some things. But where you look at it as 'one man can change the world, and the smallest change is a step forward.............I look at it in a broader view.............The controlling power of the world if unwilling to change due to it's nature of greed will thwart change at every turn until it's investments are no longer considered financially viable, then having enough money to buy out the new technologies it will rebrand itself and continue on it's path.

In an Ideal world, everyone if they all did the right thing, could change the world but the real world is a place where we are the pawns in a much larger game and the things we do have very little effect on the outcome.

Thats enough from me now, my head hurts when i think about this shit too much, I hate to admit defeat, but in the world of right minded People Versus People of influence and Wealth.........I conceed. Money might not buy happiness but it buys everything else.

As Metallica said....Sad But True. :peace: Gh72
