Help me out Sparky's

Recommended Posts

Im sure this has been asked and answered many times, however I havent been able to find what im looking for browsing through the site yet so I figured I may as well just ask.

Im after a detailed website or detailed post or e-mail with information about connecting lights to the same power cords...

I would much rather have one or two power leads coming out of my grow then half a dozen or so... So any ways to connect multiple lights up to the same lead would be great.

Anybody with any sites or documents with any great light information like requested above feel free to send my way as when it comes to playing with power although im not to scared... I would like to know what im doing.

Just buy a power board from the hardware or supermarket. Most power boards are rated to 2400watts, 10amps. Check all plugs and chords when operating, if they are getting warm they're overloaded and could be dangerous. Keep your powerboard elevated so it doesn't get leaf matter or water on it.

Amps = watts / volts

So a 400watt light draws 1.67amps

600W = 2.5amps

1000W = 4.17amps

Regular house circuits are rated to 10 amps, so you need to look at what other appliances you may already have on the same circuit. For example, my circuit breajer trips if I have my growlights, toaster and kettle on at the same time, but toaster and kettle one after the other and I'm fine. So these days I have to east my toast as I'm waiting for my water to boil. B)

hi majestic,

i no where u r cuming from

and theres a simple way to fix your problem 4 under ten bucks

just go to a hardware store and buy a junktion box with enough

conection's for how many cords u wish to connect.

eg: if u have 4 power cords then buy a box with 4 conectors

this way it will allow u to run the 4 into box with only the 1 cord

to plug into power.....

cheers dude and good luck B)

I've got the same prob.

I want to set up 3-4 cf's and the holders are the same as the house ceiling ones.

Do i just connect posative and negative to first one as per normal then join from 1 to 2 etc like with power point, Or, Posative to first one, Keep connecting from 1 to the next and join the last one to the negative.

Thanks.

You are talking about wiring your fluoro's in parallel, if the lights have plugs fitted then pipemans suggestion about the power board is the way to go, find someone that genuinely knows what they are doing.

Get scared, if you touch the wrong thing you could end up dead or with permanent disabilities, wire it wrong and you could end up setting the house on fire.

Dont get me wrong Tom I am scared... what I meant was if i was given a very detailed way of hooking up what I want.. I would go about it, althought unless I have what I think is a dead set way of going about it step by step I wont even bother trying.... I will only try to do what I want to do if I feel I have enough information.. that is where I was hoping other ozstoners could help me out.

sorry majestic I assumed your fittings had plugs on them. OldManMozz could probably help you out with how to wire them. But I would still suggest getting a sparkie to do it for you. It won't cost that much, is a one off investment and is worth it for the peace of mind IMO.
