Prop 19 To Legalise Marijuana Defeated In California

Recommended Posts

This is a very good example of why voting should be compulsory in every democracy, to get a true representation of what the constituency wants.

Sorry mate, but gotta disagree with you here. A true democracy, imo, should allow choice. If you feel strongly enough about a candidate, party, policy etc, you will turn up and vote for them or it. But I don't think forcing people who have no interest or knowledge of a particular candidate, party etc into voting actually gives you a true representation of what the constituency wants, at all. What you could end up with is a whole lot of people voting for a particular candidate based on what they look like, or because their mate did, or what their family traditionally has etc etc. Nup, I strongly believe voting should be optional.

In this particular instance, not surprised Prop 19 didn't get up. After all, we're talking about American politics. The same system that "allowed" George Dubya to win two, or was it three, elections??!!

However, this policy of choosing to vote is susceptible to abuse, usually from the rich white people who are trying to prevent others, generally who are not wealthy, to have their say.

Also, Bush stole the first election, then somehow won the 2nd election. US law prevents 3 terms.

Yes this is a fucken shame Ive been hanging for so long on the hope that prop 19 would get thought and start a revolution that would eventually be world wide but to no avail :(

I hope they just take it on the chin got back to educating ppl and try again and maybe in a few years they will get it through.

Motherflower that's just dumb yea it may grow free under the sun but if you have ever grown dope you would know that there is a bit more to it than just throwing seeds in some dirt and hoping for the best, have you ever thought about how many years it takes develop stable a verity that will grow the way you want them too not to mention the effort in selecting desirable phenotypes, cross breeding them(which has to be done indoors or green houses to avoid unwanted pollination), and then getting it to a point in which you can say "we have our own unique variation"?

The only dope growers that would want to see prop 19 fall over is the growers selling there dog shit cash crop cos they loose an illegal income. If the powers that be don't have any incentive to legalese it such as taxation then they never will, if i had to pay a small fee for the right to grow dope so be it! i pay for my drivers license, i pay for my firearms license, i pay for a dozen other licenses so y shouldn't i be able to pay for a dope license? And if i had to pay tax when buying it from a dispensary cos my crop hasten come through yet then so be it again, at least it wont be the turds dealers sell and i know im not supporting organized crime or some cock just trying to get rich from selling shit weed cos he cant be fucked growing properly.

Yes i agree that some major player would more than likely come in and take the market and that's the sad thing about the whole state of affairs, welcome to capitalism. The only way to avoid this is to only limit licenses or doing as they do with tobaco and allowing only a set amount of product to be sold, so if a tobacco farmer grows 12 tons rather than his 10 ton quota he can either opt to have the 2 extra tonns destroyed or stored untill the next crop and plant less.

Prop 19 allowed private citizens to grow a few plants. A lot of stoners voted against it because they all said that the tobaccco companies will take over and poison everyone. The law was narrowly defeated. I would hate to think ignorance cost us freedom

What i would like to see happen in Australia and the rest of the world is some kind of license being introduced that would allow you to grow X amount of plants and have X amount of dried bud in your possession and sell small amounts (under 1/2 pound) to dispensary's and another kind that would allow you to grow more plants to supply dispensary's. having dispensary type shops that can sell you bud legally if you have a license as well but make street dealing illegal and increase penalty for people who street deal and grow commercial quantity's to supply the street market, this way no one company can come in and take the market over. The Giverment still makes money off the license and can tax what is sold through dispensers for those that simply cant grow, this would be the only logical way to make it some what regulated and prevent Philip Morris coming in and taken over the business.

As it stands to grow tobacco legally you need a license that limits you to the amount you can sell to a tobacco company and if you grow too much you can either burn the excess or keep it for the next year in case you cant grow enough if you get bad weather, i have mates that pick tobacco and that's how the business is run.
