Hardening Off

Hardening-off

The cuttings usually develop a good root system and will be ready to transplant in three to six weeks. At this time the hardening-off process begins, preparing the delicate cuttings for a life in bright sunshine. The cuttings are removed and transplanted to a sheltered spot such as a greenhouse until they begin to grow on their own. It is necessary to water them with a dilute nutrient solution or feed with finished compost as soon as the hardening-off process begins. Young roots are very tender and great care is necessary to avoid damage. When vegetative cuttings are placed outside under the prevailing photoperiod they will react accordingly. If it is not the proper time of the year for the cuttings to grow and mature properly (near harvest time, for example) or if it is too cold for them to be put out, then they may be kept in a vegetative condition by supplementing their light to increase daylength. Alternatively they may be induced to flower indoors under artificial conditions.

Back in olden day when i used to grow, i used to whack my clones in 100mm -.5ltr pots of coco and feed em like normal coco indoor plants until roots were visible through the drainage holes in the bottoms of the pots.....light time is best kept to 18/6 or as close to outdoor light time as possible :scratchin: .... but 24/7 still works

Then i would transplant them into 6" -1.5ltr pots of "terracotta & tub" Premium potting mix with a couple pellets(10 max) of dynamic lifter added......

Once they were all in the 6" pots i would leave them outside in a sheltered area where the sun could get the plants but not the pots..(this saves the roots from cooking)

I would put them out every morning as soon as mi eyes opened(roughly 6;30am) and then bring them back in and sun down(roughly 7;30-8;00 in daylight savings time)....repeat that for about 10 days.

After that, the plants should have shown signs of new growth and would/should be ready to plant out. :xcited:

Hope that helps some peeps :scratchin:

All the best,

Chron :punk:

Great info, Chron. Every time I'm given a mate's excess clones they always start to bud immediately, sulk for a while, get their shit together then start veggying. It seems I lose 3-4 weeks of good grow time waiting for them to sort out the photo-period & grow accordingly. The above makes good sense. Cheers

Your shittin me? You still need to harden outdoor plants off? I live in Scotland and WE need to harden plants off but I would have thought you would have crackin weather to grow outdoors?

Yeah we do have crackin weather, but unless your indoor environment is pretty much exactly the same as your outdoor you still need to harden off. If that was the case you'd just start them outdoor hey.

Naycha :peace:

Alright Louise, never thought about it bein a bit hot, makes sense though. Hi Magma. Our outdoor season runs from? Well I had plants out late March this year . Lookin to harvest from the middle of September to the end of October,So thats about 7mths. I only do outdoor for a bit of fun and if I get anythin at the end its a bonus! To be honest its not ideal growin outdoors here. Its not so bad down the south of England but Im well North here. It takes pretty specialised genetics for canna to thrive here and about the best is Hybrids from Hell(Danish)and they are good for lattitudes up to 57degreesN with excellent mold resistance. Ive got 5 easy sativa,2 grapefruit,3 purple maroc,2 skunk special and 2 bubblegummer(female seeds.nl),8 sweet tooth(BC Seed Depot),7 purple pineberry(Next Generation),13 arnes forgetful snowdog,13 arnes hashplant 2(hybrids from hell) and Im splitting a 20 pack of mixed autos from Short Stuff with my grow buddy,so we should get somethin from our outdoor efforts,no? I do most of my grows indoor though
