smokinjoe
either pop a seed into some coco or high quality seedling mix, (ensure it's not too hot), or grab a nice variety from a specialist nursery. Tomatoes have pretty much the same nutrient requirements as MJ. Thrive is great for them as is Miracle Grow. Charlie Carp will get them singing too. PK13-14 does wonders for them. Build yourself a trellis out of old lattice or concrete reo; as they will need some support when in full bloom.

Rose Gardener
But what do you mean trellis and reo Smokinjoe is suggesting you build a trellis out of an old lattice or reo rod. When tomato plants fruit, they need support because the fruit is heavy and the plant will end up toppling otherwise. In the past, I've used the slender bamboo lengths that Bunnings sell by the bundle, and built trellis cages around my plants. Three uprights with a few short horizontal pieces tied in place to stabilize the structure. I also suggest you check out your bug control options like Rotenone, etc. Otherwise, the bugs will get your fruit! All the best with it.

Rocker
Tomatoes need food and water but not too much of either. And like all other plants they need light and dark periods. That's about it really. Is there anything better than a bright red tomato?
boomstix
mine are going great with not much attention at all. i manured and mulched the soil before i planted anything. i chucked in some seeds out of tomatoes i was eating for lunch and whaddya know they sprang up!. they have tended to topple over as they got bigger so i used some sticks to give them some support. they tell me that basil is a good friend for tomatoes because they will keep the bugs off each other. they also taste great together so i'm throwing some basil seeds around the tomatoes to see if anything comes of it. cone head
i got heaps of tomatos in my garden beds all different varieties romas are a really nice sweet variety and cherry romas are great also its a bit late to be planting them now though but if you do next year plant in the ground with nice sandy loam and some compost and manure and then give them some dynamic lifter for tomatoes or something like that every few weeks and then hit em with the potash when they start flowering and youll have lots in no time theyre really easy to grow and dont need much ferts, i have a few in a bed that only has sandy loam and mushroom compost and havnt given them anything but a bit of potash in fruiting and theyre boosting Cone
