Darwin Growing

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

Obviously I'm new around here. Just been browsing and searching through this forum and I'm now feeling a little confused.

Now I'm guessing that growing up here should be relatively straight forward due to the good weather we have, however I'm getting confused.

I'm really sorry to be asking such dumb questions especially when many of the posters here appear to be pretty advanced but, well, I just don't get it.

So.

Because I live in the tropics I start getting confused straight away. Can I begin a grow any time of the year here or am I still bound by 'seasons'?

I'm guessing (from reading the forum) that I need to pick a mold resistant species such as White Widow (which suites me fine).

Erm, yeah, this is all very embarrassing as these should be the most simple steps and maybe because they are so simple they are not well documented (assumed knowledge and all that). I've been wanting to do this for such a long time and it dawned on me a few weeks ago that now I'm living in the tropics I should get on it and give it a go. Just need to know what and when :)

Sorry for being a crap n00b and all that but I have searched the outdoor growing forum and not found answers to the questions I have asked.

Hope someone can help :)

Cheers

Welcome man!! The more you read the more you'll learn.

You're right in the aspect that you will want a mold resistant strain because of your environment. Autos are an easier way to do it if you're growing outdoors in the tropics. But really it all comes down to your soil/watering and how much care and effort you put into your setup.

You don't have to grow an auto flowering strain - you can grow whatever takes your fancy.

An automatic flowering strain is one that turns to flower automatically after a set amount of time, where as a normal flowering plant will start to flower as the daylight hours decrease and winter approaches. This is replicated in indoor grows by reducing the hours of light from say 18/6 to 12/12.

You are lucky that in the north of Australia you have a much greater window of time to grow your plants and depending on your exact location you could grow all year round.

There are a wealth of great strains that you could grow - take some time and scour the seedbanks and grow diary's to see what your options are.

So I've been reading (instead of studying :D) all day.

Some interesting stuff in the outdoor growing section. I will be tipping and tying down as I live in a residential area. Think I will only do 2 or 3 plants. Its all for me anyway. My partner doesn't even smoke.

I have stumbled across the 'Female Seed - Easy Satvia' which apparently grows very well outside  so I figure I might give that one a go (its also pretty damn cheap too). I have found out where to purchase my seeds from and will do so in just a second or 2 :D

I'm going to keep mine in pots too so they can be moved (should we get the threatened cyclone season that's being talked about) and to also limit the growth a bit. I have an excellent jungle garden but I also have neighbors (although I'm 99% sure they're all cool but still, hush hush).

I know what potting mix to buy from Bunnings :D and what the pH should be.

Damn, its as if everything you need to know is here if you can be bothered to spend a bit of time reading.

I'll be sticking around to share my experiences and learn from everyone.

Peace out

bag seed is a good place to start ,no loss if ya kill em

but thats up to you,

if you can get some O/S beans in ya mits then thats even better

but mistakes are common and might lose a few, so if coin is no probs go that way

auto flower are usally harvested 5-6 weeks from seed,

HI & welcome aboard Mini - Your in time. Your getting help :applause: + puttingin some reading.

What are you studing so hard for atm ?

You have solved half the ridle in choosing how your going to do your grow. Where is another 1/8th of it.

Some quick tips about outdoor growing that applies to most growing and is fairly comon sense really.

1. Don't tell anyone where your 'plot' is located.

2. Have a good watering/feed plan & stick to it as best as possible.

3. Be invisible (don't be seen regularly carting water)

4. Manage pest control well. (roos, pigs, cattle, grasshoppers, grubs)

- Pest control (insects) try 'home made whiteoil'

5. Grow well !
