Mh And Hps

Anybody use a MH for veg and switch to HPS for flower.Do you get much more growth in veg from a MH over a HPS?I only use a HPS at the moment but its all new to me this indoor growing.

Hi AvaDGardener,

 

I do use MH for vege and HPS for flower sometimes - the MH will give a much more compact growth structure with much closer nodes so they are good if you have to deal with height issues.

 

MH's run a lot cooler than a HPS as well.

 

I do notice the difference when I vege with a HPS, much more stretching (but not terrible) and the plants are a bit thirstier.

 

I haven't seen any difference in root development between the two bulbs.

Cheers.Just wanted to know if there was a great deal of difference.Apart from the heat not much then.I was just wanting to know if it was worth my time to get one but probably not.

All the pros here seem to just use HPS for both...

 

What would be the effect of using 1 of each type side by side at the same time for veg ?

Or flower for that matter? Is it just not worth the extra power consumption for minor result?

 

I read that each type is missing certain spectrums that the other one offers

There is a bulb that ppl use that has both light spectrums for veg and bud the philips son t agro.

 

I have used some other bulbs but all ways seem to back to the sun t as the sun all ways imo out dose the others...

I use a 400w MH for veging and a 600w HPS for flowering. I also use the MH for the first couple of weeks of flower just to try to keep the initial stretch down. In the end i think it comes down to money and personal preference. If all you have is a HPS or a MH, you will still get good bud using one or the other, maybe it could just be a little better if you used two.
