Not Off Beat But Different.

Recommended Posts

I read in the Herald Sun today that smart meters have been put in houses in the following suburbs in Vic. Preston, old housing commission area, lots of indoors. Broadmeadows, same as Preston. And one of the biggest burbs for drugs in Vic. Sunshine, mean shit happens out there, seriously bad area, lots of electricity stolen in Sunshine.

The cost of the meters goes on the bill, an extra $238.

I would/will refuse to pay for a new meter.

I got one, nothing i could do about it.

If you refuse they may suspect you of stealing power and conduct a search.

Solar is the way to go but to generate enough to power my home will cost ~ $100K.

If you want to sponsor me to do it I will, but until then I just gotta bend over and take it in the AH.

Just remember that smart meters don't stop you growing, power companies love good paying customers with high bills.

Hammer.

With your smart meters you can opt for TOU (time of use) instead of a flat rate, which means you get charged at different rate for different times of the day.

Not to sure what the tariffs are in Vic but up here in NSW they are as follows.

Flat rate

Peak .22c Kwh

off peak .11c Kwh

TOU (smart meters)

Off Peak-between the hours of 8pm and 7am -.06c Kwh

Shoulder peak- between the hours of 7am and 2pm -.11c Kwh

Peak- between the hours of 2pm and 8pm - .36c Kwh

So EVERYTHING that you use in your house between those hours above, get charged at different rates.

If you worked it out it might be cheaper for you to go on TOU metering.

All you have to do is change your set up accordingly.
