New To Growing, Need Some Tips :)

Recommended Posts

Hey Fellow stoners :)

I'm thinking of starting to grow my own dope but just don't know where to start or what i need. or how to get my hands on all the goodies needed. I would appreciate any help, tips or anyway i can get my hand on the goods.

thanks guys :)

Well the first place to start is the seed,

Do you want to grow indica, sativa or cross breds? or bag seed from some good stuff!

Demon seeds is a good seed bank!

growing medium: soil mix, soil, coco peat, pearlite, drainage, lime, ph of soil mix

lights: natural or artifical, it is the time to grow outside

hps lights are good for flowering & flouro are good for the veg stage

Nutrients: organic - seaweed liquid, fish liquid, guano, coco peat

Organic nutrients are good as you can not over feed or burn the plants & the finished product will burn more even & have less harsh smoke but you still always want to flush plants the last few weeks before harvest.

Check out the NPK of the nutrients, nitrogen is said to give more females in the seedling stage, while potassium is said to be good for the flowering stage

In-orgainic nutrients can burn leaves & create salt bulid up in roots & then the only option is to flush the plant soil out & will make the finished product a harsh smoke if not drained properly.

yellowing of the leaves can be a sign of not enough nitrogen or to much salt build up in roots.

if growing inside, you would benefit from light timers,

Fans to strengthen stems for a healthy grow

Optional: ph meter, temp meter, humidity meter, air filter for oder control, humidifier or dehymidifer if needed

panda flim is water proof, two sided, black & the white side is reflective, panda flim also I would assume helps with humidity levels

mylar is a refelective material: to promote even light distubution.

Ways to increase yelids: what style do you want to grow, topping, scrog- (sea of green/screen of green) LST- (low stress traning) http://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/299554-how-lst-low-stress-training.html

cloning: keeping a non auto flowering mother plant in a veg stage (18 hours of fluoro light everyday)

rooting hormone, humidity dome, heat pad for bottom warmth, liquid seaweed, jiffy pellets

Dont go over board, to much of good thing can be a bad thing! try not to use to many products, certain things can have a bad reaction to other things!

I read on a form that a bloke had a bad reaction of his plant from guano, worm castings + lime!

dilute everything sperately as the label reads.

Also do you want to pollinate or grow seedless, the pollenation takes away from the energy put into budding

but you can also look up how to do selective pollination & even cross strains!

Make sure you find out what sex the plants are in the first part of flowering.

You can try bunnings or your local hydroponic store.

Thanks Aussiestoner86 For all that information, very useful, I seem to have a much clearer understanding of the process i need to grow through now :applause:

I'm just going to start of small with a couple plants in my cupboard to see how the process works, so i'll start with seedless to begin with. I'm still looking around at my choice of seeds, I'm wondering just what the simplest but big bud seeds are? I'm still a Noob with all of this so any tips on some seeds that are big buds but are simple to start with would be great :).

Glad I could be of help mate, there are so many options to grow! Just keep it simple & do some research on benefits of products & methods of doing certain things.

If you take care of a good genetics clone mother you will never need seed again & always have the same quality herb but its also good to have some seeds just in case of being needed!

There are a lot of strains with different potencies & different yeliders, different heights (but you could maybe top depending on the strain type) & quicker harvesting times, auto flowering which are crossed with another varity of strain called "ruderalis" that is low in thc mainly used for hemp but when crossed with other indica or sativa strains makes it a auto flower that no shorter light time is needed to bud/flower.

Some name strains have different highs, like a cerebral high, body high, couch lock, head high, energetic high, hash flavor-(mainly pure or domanate indicas) some claim to have fruity note or taste.

Find which is best for you mate but go with what seed/or seed bank is best for you & has the best reviews & depending on how much you get ethier break up the orders, just try not to order to much that it looks like you are going to grow a whole feild in case customes does snatch them, it is possible & if so you wont lose to much money! & keep you grow a secret! loose lips sink ships! ;)

Feminzed seeds are good but sometimes can be a hermaprotie (both male & female sex = seed)

I read that its usually 50/50 males to femals when growing cannibas, so if you go to a pick & mix try to get 2 or a few to increase the chances of female plants.

Remember you have a whole family to brag to here :)

G'day mate

I haven't grown in a few years, but I reckon the principles would be the same

I grew from cuttings and never got caught up with different strains

Just whatever was going and then clone the bejeezus out of it

This is the most difficult part

Knowing someone with cuttings, keeping a mum for your next crop, or running the gauntlet with seeds

Each has pluses and minuses - your choice

As far as the actual growing in your cupboard goes, it's where I started

Keep it simple as someone said

You'll need one light type for veg (HD?) and one for flower (HPS 400w is a good start)

Your local hydro shop will help you out

I remember the lucre grow (son-t-agro?) were primo globes to use

Once I potted the plant out I just hit them with 24 hours of light (assuming you raised them under a fluro)

You could probably just raise your seeds under your vegetative light on 24 hour cycle as well

Just don't let them dry out

I would never let them get bigger than 3-4 inches before I cut the light to 12 hours to promote flowering

You'll know within a week or 2 the sex of the plants

Cutting the light on a small plant produces a compact plant - needed when growing under lights

I later used a 'sea of green' method where each plant had a 6 inch x 6 inch space

Let them get a little bigger if they have more room - but don't make the mistake of letting them get too big

The light won't penetrate to the bottom and your plant will be leggy

Plants do a hell of a lot of growing in flower under a 400w light

You'll need something like a desk fan to move the air around and move the plants a bit and stop mould etc

You'll need some sort of simple extraction fan as well (I just used a bathroom type fan)

I painted the inside of my wardrobe white - you can use mylar as well but I found it a bit of a pain as it kept falling down

Eventually used panda plastic in a built enclosure

Don't get caught up in additives

I found the Canna (product) the best - one for veg and one for flower

Maybe get a PH gun, but if you're hand watering (as opposed to recirculating) you may not need it

All the other stuff you can get into later if you like

You need to decide how to catch your run off and what medium to grow in

Your hydro shop can help you out here as well

I think that's about it for the basics

Persevere and you should be smoking some nice gear before too long
