Smell Masking

Recommended Posts

First post in here so try to be understanding of my somewhat amateur questions.

Based in Melbourne. Please let me know if you foresee problems in this setup.

I have recently been blessed with a few lovely seeds that i decided to germinate and plant accordingly in a makeshift greenhouse. I've got 6 seedlings at about a week old sitting in my garden at the moment and i'm trying to decided what to do with them. The Greenhouse that i built worked wonders and i'm thinking of upscaling it to fit maybe 3 full sized plants in my back garden. The current green house is is about a 1ft wide, 2.5ft long and 1.5ft high. I'm going to build a bigger greenhouse with the specs of about 1.5m high, 3ft wide and 3m long. Would this be large enough to hold 3 plants? Is growing inside the greenhouse for the hole process an option or should i make it possible to maybe remove 1 side of the greenhouse (or even the top) once the plants are nearing flowering. Also what possible plants mask the smell? This is the major problem with growing as i do live in somewhat close vicinity to my neighbors and the smell when they are flowering would be rather obvious. I have researched greenhouse growing to a reasonable extent but all the information i could find was generally related to Cali/US grows.

Cheers for the help.

If odour is an issue then you'd be silly to grow in your backyard. Nothing will completely mask the smell and the stuff that comes close, eg. dynamic lifter, multiple compost bins, etc. will have the neighbours up in arms in no time at all not to mention how bad it will be for yourself as well :(

If you want to grow pot you have 2 options:

1) use your greenhouse to raise plants which then get put out in the bush

2) grow indoors and use a carbon filter

Personally I think you should just go indoors as there is less chance of being caught and you have absolute control over everything.

Thanks headstone!

I was going to do a guerrilla grow but after thinking it through i came to the conclusion that doing a grow of only 3 - 5 plants in bush setup isn't really worth it and i'd be better off going all out and doing 10 - 15 plants. My best bet is probably going inside with 3ish plants isn't it.

Also Dynamic Lifter does mask the smell a little bit? I already have a small garden in my backyard and my neighbors would really only throw a fit if it was a weed smell not an organic/compost odor. Also this would be my first grow, so how strong is the smell when it does flower?

Your larger greenhouse would house 3 plants pretty well I think but I think that your bigger worry will be the smell.

Depending on the strain marijuana can have a fairly distinct smell about it when it buds so you will have to really think about the placement of the greenhouse in relation to your neighbours proximity.

Also your plants could easily get higher than the 1.5m you have mentioned so think about whether or not you should consider tying them down LST style.

Do you know what the strain is?

Lotsa luck,

Nah i don't know the strain. They are bag seeds that i've had for a while now, from an old strain that i loved to smoke a few months back. Im hoping 3/6 will be girls and i'll get to flower them. I think im going to go ahead with doing it in the back with maybe a 2m high green house instead of 1.5m.

Can a plant be taken from its vege state grown outdoors and put indoors to flower?

Yes they can, just switch on to 12/12 and they will start flowering. Probably a really good idea to grow out back then chuck them inside to flower, best of both worlds.......use the greenhouse and be able to mask the smell.

Definately a good idea

Hey Elzaros

U seen the pics that i posted. mine is also a makeshift green house made from bamboo, clear tarp and anti bird netting. the green house is only 3.5 foot tall.

When my plants are about 6 inches tall with a few leaves i pinch the tips, and supercrop, i then continue to pinch branches and supercrop, Plants stay a lot smaller, grow into bushes instead of the distinct christmas tree style,

Having been growing sativas and 16 week hazes in doors, i was always stuck for space so every plant was topped, pinched, supercropped and also LST.

What i found works best on all varieties is the pinching and supercropping. Some dont like to be topped.

hope this helps :peace:
