For years prohibitionists, including our own Drug Enforcement Administration, have claimed — falsely — that the tolerant marijuana policies of the Netherlands have made that nation a nest of crime and drug abuse. They may have trouble wrapping their little brains around this:

The Dutch government is getting ready to close eight prisons because they don’t have enough criminals to fill them. Officials attribute the shortage of prisoners to a declining crime rate.

Just for fun, let’s compare the Netherlands to California. With a population of 16.6 million, the Dutch prison population is about 12,000. With its population of 36.7 million, California should have a bit more than double the Dutch prison population. California’s actual prison population is 171,000.

So, whose drug policies are keeping the streets safer?

Onya Billo  , says it all, doesn't it!!. I find that the Dutch have a great system of law. you can pretty much do what you want as long as you don't hurt anyone, carry weapons, deal hard drugs or make a dick of yourself. The jailing of people for soft drug offences does not work, it turns them on the system and makes them harder, wastes valuable tax dollars and stops no-one really using soft drugs. Just ruins peoples lives.

Coffeeshops for the whole world :applause: , legalize it , set us free  , We ain't hurting nobody. What ever happened to freedom?????

This is madness how are they gonna justify millions of wasted dollars on a war on drugs when they don't have prisons to lock ppl up in? ohh that's right they don't have as much crime cos ppl are too stoned to go out and do stupid shit! And unlike America where 95% of prisons are PRIVATELY owned you will find the Netherlands have government owned prisons, y lock ppl up when it cost so much on the tax system?

Because The dutch are incredibly intelligent. They're to busy tyring to push the sea back with dams to create more land for their people, then imprison people for something which occurs regardless of laws. No brainer, clever goverment. :freak:
