POLICE have released shocking mobile phone footage of a two-year-old girl smoking what appears to be a marijuana cigarette.

 

Authorities in Cincinnati said the toddler's mother, named as 21-year-old Jessica Gamble, can be heard in the background coaching the child as she holds the joint and seemingly smokes it while watching television, myFOXny.com reported.

 

The Ohio Department Of Job And Family Services was given the video in August by someone who saw the June incident.

Miss Gamble could face eleven years behind bars. She also reportedly faces a charge of corruption with drugs and is expected back in court later this month.

The mum is obviously severely mentally incompetent.

 

I do think some level of prison term would be appropriate, but it must be document that the child definately absorbed a significant amount of marijuana into her system. I would give her 1-2 years, and at the very least a significant intervention from Child Protection. Unfortunately though, many child protection people don't only believe that a lady like this should lose her children, but any drug user should lose his children. The Howard government (before they lost the election) released a report suggesting legislation which would have taken permanently children from any home where drug use occured, including pot.

There are many accounts of maternal use of cannabis in so many cultures.....It shouldn't take yah to long to become well informed.......

More Suppression of Marijuana Research

 

In the 1980s Melanie Dreher and colleagues at UMass Amherst began a longitudinal study to assess the well-being of infants and children whose mothers used cannabis during pregnancy. The researchers lived in rural Jamaican communities among the women they were studying. Thirty cannabis-using pregnant women were matched for age and

socio-economic status with 30 non-users. Dreher et al compared the course of their pregnancies and their neo-natal outcomes, using various standard scales.

 

No differences were detected three days after birth. At 30 days the exposed babies did better than the non-exposed on all the scales and significantly better on two of the scales (having to do with autonomic stability and reflexes).

 

Follow-up studies were conducted when the kids were four and five (just before entering school and after). The moms were defined as light users (1-10 spliffs per week), moderate (11-20), and heavy (21-70). Consumption of ganja tea was also taken into account.

Not a little infant inhaling cannabis smoke. Quite a different situation.
