Does Size Of Pot Infuelnce Plant Height?

Recommended Posts

The size of the pot does not control the height of the plant at all. The main factor with height is the strain , veg time and weather you train or tip the plant. You are always better off using a larger pot with soil. A smaller pot can effect the stucture of the plant to its detrement and reduce width/yield.

Just choose an apropriate strain , veg time and decide if you want too manipulate it.

Keep it real peeps

RR

Forgot too mention the strength of the light will efect stretch in a plant. The stonger the light the closer the internodes will be in both veg and flower compacting the plant and increasing the yield/size of plant ratio.

lmao

From my experience the smaller the pot the smaller the plant and visa versa..you cant grow a 6ft plant in a 4inch pot:scratchin:

Hence "root bound" this restricts the over all height. Think about bonsai plants and there root systems.

And yes as RR said pick a gene or strain which only grows to a certain height.

Theres no reason to go for a smaller pot to reduce the height of the plant. The Smaller pots tend too increase the height of the plant and make it more stretchy . This is due to the roots not having any lateral foothold hence not enableing the plant strength too sidebranch. The plant can only go upwards. The only undersized pot plants I tend too see are stretchy. They look like little 7 foot skinny dudes trying to carry cement bags on their heads. (not very stable or strong).

Im just saying that using soil and within reasonable parameters using a smaller pot will not restrict the height of you plant. It will get to the same height just the same but with inferior structure and/or potential/yield.

General rule of thumb is to have the width of the pot the same as the width you want the plant too be. Heights up too you and your strain.

cheers

what if you dig a 2ft hole and put the plant in that then you can grow a 6 to 7 ft plant and it will only be 4 to 5ft above the ground

that's a really good idea - nice thinking

I don't have much outdoor experience but some of my mates grow their outsiders using LST and have very good success, keeps em' short but gives a good harvest

I don't understand why, if your growing outdoors, that you don't use the biggest pot that is practical. i only limit pot size inside due to space restrictions. Outside, go the biggest you can and if it gets outta control, train it , bend it, top it, whatever it takes, better to have it too big outside than too small.Better root system=better growth and yield. Root bound is not SO bad, but it means the roots will be trying to pull more goodness out of a smaller area.
