Does Size Of Pot Infuelnce Plant Height?

Recommended Posts

Is it is possible to limit the height of outdoor plants by keeping their root space relatively restricted? I know that keeping a plant in a tiny pot for nine months wouldn't be a good idea, and I have no intention of doing that. However, I can't have 2 or 3 six foot plants in my backyard either. I'm not sure whether I really want to start tying down and topping, seeing as I've read some positive and some negative things about using such methods. Therefore, I thought that it might be a good idea to keep them in pots that are slightly smaller than what people would generally recommend. My theory is that the plant might not grow at such a fast rate if it senses that there is limited root space available, but I guess that really depends on how much of an influence the root system plays in determining plant growth. Furthermore, I don't want to end up with some massive rootball that will make the plant unhealthy and dramatically reduce the yield. Edited by Shatner Bassoon

I have used 8inch-10inch pots in the past and she only reached a height of around 1 meter odd (give or take a few inches) tall but not very wide. Ill post a pic from the past..

Thanks heaps for the help. Did those plants grow through a full natural season? These will be outdoor plants, so they'll be growing for quite some time.
