Woman tells of package swap

Recommended Posts

A YOUNG woman told a court yesterday that she saw her former boyfriend exchange a yellow envelope for a green shopping bag from a black four-wheel-drive in a car park south of the Sunshine Coast.

Jasmine Hallam said she had seen more than one such exchange, recalling him grabbing a bundle of $50 notes once when they were at Sunshine Plaza, but she had never seen the contents of the packages.

Bradley Paul Gannon, 28, was committed to stand trial on three counts of drug trafficking and possession of cannabis and speed.

He was in custody when he faced the committal hearing in Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday but is expected to make a bail application today.

The court heard he had been in custody since a search at a Buderim home in March.

Ms Hallam said she had a cannabis and speed habit when she was involved in an on-and-off relationship with Mr Gannon.

She said she believed her then boyfriend was selling large amounts of drugs, something he and his friends had divulged, but she did not witness it.

“I've seen him with illegal drugs but I haven't seen him hand over illegal drugs,†she said.

Police prosecutor Andy Macpherson tendered 20 exhibits to the court, including search warrants at three Sunshine Coast units and a car.

He also tendered copies of stored communications, the content of text messages, ordered from various telecommunication companies.

A charge related to 424 pills found during the search of a car was withdrawn after tests revealed them to be caffeine tablets rather than dangerous drugs.

Detective Senior Constable Shannon Dowd said police had been investigating Mr Gannon since August last year. He said police used text message and voice message intercepts on two mobile phones over a four-week period last November and December.

He pointed to many intercepts that could be linked to drug exchanges.

Another witness testified he had purchased about $300 worth of cannabis from Mr Gannon.

The court was closed for part of the proceedings so another witness could give evidence freely.
