Four years for `helpful' drug dealer

Recommended Posts

A TEENAGE Coomera drug dealer, who also kept a double-barrel shot gun in a pillow case, told police he was just 'helping out mates' who needed ecstasy and cannabis.

Daniel Douglas Laing was this morning sentenced to four years in jail after he pleaded guilty to nine offences including drug trafficking and possession of the shot gun and cartridges.

The Supreme Court in Brisbane was told police searched Laing, then aged 19, as he was walking around Coomera and found ecstasy pills in his shorts in March last year.

A search of his home led to them finding the shot gun, drug scales and clip seal bags and 127 drug-related text messages on his mobile phone going back several months.

When police interviewed Laing he admitted he had been working by selling drugs but said it was 'just helping out mates'.

The court was told Laing, now aged 21, had since got a job and applied to join the army but that would be put on hold until his release from prison which will be after he has served 15 months.

better still, don't use your mobile EVER!!! It's the first thing they'll go for. And I'm not sure just deleting messages is effective either - can't they be traced back anyway, or is it only calls (numbers) they can do that for?

The gun thing is bad, I agree, but it seems an overly excessive sentence in any event. Although the story doesn't say how many priors he had or the actual amounts of drugs, so it's hard to say.

Yeah you're right Snooch, the Telcos are mandated, by law to keep all messages. It is my understanding that these are kept for a minimum 6mths, so that the cops can go back trace msgs both sent and recieved. Be careful that mobile you have in your pocket, it can be used as a trap. They can trace your movements, your calls, your msgs everything. Some of the conspiracy groups believe they can even be used as a bug without your knowledge. A mate of mine and fellow grower makes me leave my phone at home if we are going out to view his grow. Is he paranoid? Probably. But is he safe, Definitely.

If your arrested say NOTHING to the cops.

They are manipulative predators, who will prey on the vulnerable and those desperate "to get out of jail", then if you babble to them, you are fucked.

NEVER SAY ANYTHING TO THE COPS, EXCEPT YOUR BASIC DETAILS SUCH AS NAME AND ADDRESS.

Be polite and don't provoke them, yes they often deserve harrassment, but they can be sadistic pricks, and if you draw their attention they can cause more trouble for you, even add more charges etc and will be less likely to bail you out before court.

As much as it sucks, its probably best to be reasonably polite and ccoperative with police, but not overly so, and keep conversation to a minimum.
