Fluro Light Penetration?

Ive got a 130w CFL in my wardrobe for vegging, I was just wondering how big I can get my seedlings under there before chicking them in my tent for flowering? And also how far away should they be from the light? I have them as close as possible, all a few centimetres away.

I use a few of those 130w bulbs to vege under sometimes and my clones get to around 8-9" tall, they would probably go more if I let them?

 

I keep my bulbs about 6" away.

Cheers jimbo, Think I might raise the light a little for now coz there only a few days old.. Probly grow them to about 6 inches, tip them and wait for regrowth and chuck them into flower I think..

Great lamps those. Around 10-15cm is fine, seedlings shouldn't be allowed to stretch too much and if you note this reduce the distance to the light. Getting a good reflector is important, look for the type with panels on all sides rather than a simple batwing, as you'll be sure you reflect all the light as close as possible.

 

I run a mother/prevegging room under one of these lamps, and plants can grow past 30cm quite easily. Great lamps for keeping plenty of mother material with room for a couple of plants in small pots prevegging before being planted out.

Hey Burnz, I run a 130w CFL in my Mother/Clone Cupboard and have found the Ultra Blue one to be very good at keeping things going ( was told the grow one is what I should use but liked a bit more blue). I drop them right on top of the clones, only about 2-3 inches off them, but not when they are as young as yours.

I have 6 Ice clones under it and a mother WW ready soon for Cloning, my Ice are about 20-25cm tall and doing very well under there. The mother is about 50 cm and doing real fine. I kept the last lot under it until they were about 40cm tall and then chucked them into the flower tent.

Just to the point of alternating growth on the branches seems to be a good point to throw them into flower(for Chrystal anyway).

I use 2x130w Red/Orange CFLs as supplimentry lighting in my Flower tent (side lighting) and they work great. I tested these lamps with and without a reflector and found double the lumen output if using a reflector( from memory about 8000L, without,lucky to get 4500L).

Three fingers width from tips to light was what i did but I'd go with Luke at about 4".

 

This is how big i got mine under the 100w. Well 2 of them. The 3rd was just put in from memory.

Ok I might put the plants a bit lower... No stretch yet and seem to be growing fine at this stage... Cheers for the info.

Nice Mother room Jedi =).

Yeah Burnz, just adjust the CFL until it's at the point of good growth without too much stretch for the light. It can be different for everybody depending on ventilation, strain and reflector type.

Trial and error is the only way to know for sure but the Jedi master is always on the money, in my experience. .
