4 in a row! - Need help with air hose connections in bucket?

Ok so I have drilled 3 holes in my two buckets to fit some straight and L hose connections. Thing is these hose connections don't screw in or anything so I'm relying on the aquarium silicone to hold them in place. I'm not very confident it will.

So I have three solutions...

1. Find some grommets to put into the holes to make them tighter for the connections and use silicone to seal for water.

2. Find some screw-in straight and L type hose connections (I'm talking 4mm for air hose here.)

3. Buy new buckets and try again...

I think grommets are the way to go, but if I can find screw in connectors that would be mint.

Thoughts?

Any Irrigation supply place will have grommets. Also something that needs to be considered, is the hole size for the grommet that's to be drilled into the bucket. If this isn't done to the right specifications to begin with. You may as well throw the bucket/s away.

Most common sized grommets that you come across are 13mm (1/2") and 19mm (3/4"). What i've found that works best for me, is to drill these holes with what they call "spade bits", google it and you'll see what they are if you don't already know. you can purchase a pack of spade bits from Bunnings or similar for around the $5-$8 mark. The size bits that I use are below..

For a 13mm (1/2") grommet use a 16mm (5/8") spade bit

For a 19mm (3/4") grommet use a 22mm (7/8") spade bit

It's up to you what joiners you want to use, weather it be L's, T's or straight joiners. Just depends on what design you have in mind for running your plumbing. If you want a look at a design of DWC that I use, just say so 'n I'll russle up a picture

Got grommets and put them in. What an absolute prick they were to put in! My fingers are soooo sore now lol.

The connections are nice and tight now and I put some silicone around them for extra sealing powers. I'm pretty confident I won't have any leaks. I will test them on Monday.

At this stage it looks like operation grow some weed is set to begin next week :(
