Marijuana not so soft a drug?

Recommended Posts

Dont disagree with any of the comments, certainly a story that lacks any credibility. I think it is worth noting that it's dated 2006. A lot has changed since then, as far as science goes.

The artical although scientific in appearance is really just political bs for "We can't make money, so you can't have it".

I know with some strains I get depressed but if I take the wrong meds the same happens.

Education & knowledge is far more powerful than any bs.

My 2c worth. :)

All rubbish. Marijuana has temporary, benign, effects on pulse rate and blood pressure in new users (it goes away in experienced users) there is no evidence it contributes to the long term development of heart disease. And the rest isn't worth commenting on- RUBBISH.

“The under-appreciated risk is depression,”

he said. “The evidence is getting reasonably

strong that people susceptible to mental

problems are developing disorders.”

I don't believe marijuana is a CAUSE of depression. I have been diagnosed with Major Depression (first time was when I was 13 and hospitalized for 6 months- BEFORE I ever tried pot). I am also regarded by many people as somewhat mentally unstable. I used to hack myself up with bottles and knives on alcohol, and benzodiazepines in a high dose have a simuliar effect- I become extremely self destructive and indeed aggressive to others.

I have never experienced any problems from smoking pot for all these years.

I was trialed on all sorts of antidepressants and neuroleptics, and mood stabalizers- nothing has ever made me feel better than cannabis.

There is no hard evidence that marijuana CAUSES mental illness, maybe in some cases it might interact with some people disposition towards mental illness and personality issues, but the overall burden of marijuana on the psychiatric system I believe to be mild.

ok, thats crap.

half the generalisations in that article are so out there, im so sick of hearing this crap over and over and over!

Do they even realise, half the reason we spend more time at home or dont go out isnt cause we dont want to - its because we dont want to get in trouble. Make it legal and we'd be everywhere we wanted, calm and relaxed, not being forced to stay home and bloody hide.

And i know for a FACT i only skipped classes at school if it were obvious i were stoned because i was so scared of getting caught, otherwise i would have been there with bells on, i hated that i couldnt go to class. yes by their theory it wouldnt be a problem if not smoking, but i was so nervy i could barely walk outside without thinking everyone hated me, i doubt i would have even been in school still at that stage if not for smoke.

And its the monotomy of having to be in a private place to smoke that leads to activities like eating and watching TV - if im out and stoned i dont suddenly want to sit and do nothing or eat, theyre things we all do when bored and stuck at home with no option right?

and for those of us that self medicate, its a double edged sward - it makes us feel better but then we have everyone looking down on us, no wonder we dont want to talk to anyone and we get depressed, its like having someone tease you for having to take antidepressents, great so your down and people are going to kick you for trying to find a way back up

grrrrr

i dont even know if half of what ive written here makes sence cause i cant think straight because i havent smoked lol, maybe i am a pathetic addict as they describe in the article, but i actually remember being like this and unable to communicate as a kid, which is what originally led to me having depression and hiding in my room with books all the time.

it just gets me so cranky, I even hate the stoner movies they bring out, it all just encourages the idea that stoners are like the people described in that article.

i think youre spot on! i have had similar experiences, and know many who whould say the same.

I honestly believe that the last few generations, for various reasons, have a higher rate of mental health issues anyway, nothing to do with weed, its just convenient for them to link the two.

and if they want to winge about us sitting and doing nothing, and then about depression, they need to look at the poor people that have never smoked pot and already have depression - the ones they put on xannax, and serepax and all those other things that will certainly make it hard for you to leave the house or take interest in anything.

oh i yea make it legal and ill be blazing up at the nearest nature reserve any day rather than my couch but getting done for possession is no fun so the couch it is for me

Staying home as a stoner seems far safer than going to a pub/club and getting glassed in the face by some drunk wanker that wants to feel tough.

Do you remember the last time u got stoned, had to feel tough and smashed a glass on the edge of a counter and slammed it onto some ones face?

Show me an angry stoner and ill show you a pub full of angry drunks, show me a room full of angry stoners and ill show you an emergency room of a hospital full of what alcohol has caused any given Saturday night!
