What do customs care what certifications come with the seeds if they're coming in illegally???

1 it's not illegal to have cannabis seeds sent here if it's for seed storage! And 2 the certification shows there are no pests or diseases contained in the package! So without that certification it is illegal and will be destroyed.

Got the links to back up what you are saying?

"cause that goes against everything I've ever been told whilst coming through customs clearance after an international flight.

That's of you have an import permit for medical cannabis

doesnt really apply to us

Even you could apply for it, as long as you haven't been convicted of drug trafficking or serious drug crimes. In time to come the laws will hopefully relax to the point where cannabis is legal for social use like other country's are slowly doing, who knows what changes they will make in 2017 to the laws regarding cannabis use for social reasons or self medication. The way things are going it's looking good. Look into cannabis growing licences you might be surprised at what you can already do with, some states here are harder than others to get licences.

As far as I know if the sender has there Phytosanitary certification (which most seed banks don't have) you can send seeds pretty much anywhere as long as there sold for "seed storage" and not for growing then the seeds will be left in the package if searched and if sender doesn't have a phytosanitary certificate then customs will take the seeds and destroy them.

wrong, absolutely 100% wrong

yes seedsman have there Phytosanitary certification so they can legally send there seeds

they may have their export permit but what about their import permit... they do not have that

and this

This is what the Australian Government has to say about importing seeds

From:  https://www.odc.gov.au/acquiring-seeds-and-nursery-stock

Acquiring seeds and nursery stock
8 September 2016

A medicinal cannabis licence or a cannabis research licence will be able to authorise a person to obtain cannabis plants, including seeds, in order to commence cultivation.

Cannabis plants (tissue cultures, nursery stock, seeds etc.) can only be obtained from legal sources either in Australia or from overseas where cannabis cultivation is legal at the Federal Government level and is consistent with the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.

If obtaining from Australian industrial hemp growers, the supply of the cannabis plant/seeds must be consistent with their state/territory licence.

An import licence and permission is required from ODC if importing. Refer to the Importers, Exporters and Travellers section for more information.

Importers will also need an import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR). DAWR has established import conditions for cannabis seeds and details can be found in their import conditions system, BICON.

Concerns have been raised regarding the hot water treatment required for importing cannabis seed (50⁰C for 20 minutes) and how this may sterilise seeds. DAWR advise that this is a standard biosecurity treatment for seeds for horticultural use (for example, carrots and tomatoes) and is not known to prevent germination.

As an alternative to hot water treatment, DAWR has developed import conditions that allow cannabis seed to enter Australia subject to exporting government certification for disease freedom in conjunction with a fungicide treatment. More information can be found in BICON.

DAWR is currently working on an import protocol for tissue cultures and other forms of nursery stock. Once completed, these conditions will also be published in BICON.
