Drug users nabbed outside court

Three people have allegedly been caught with drugs on them outside a courthouse on the NSW's mid north coast.

Drug detection dogs were called in on Tuesday morning, with three of the 11 people searched outside Taree Local Court allegedly possessing cannabis.

 

Northern Region Commander Carlene York said officers had spent the last six months gathering intelligence about a large number of people using drugs outside the court, particularly on hearing days.

 

"The lesson is clear - drug possession will lead to serious criminal charges," Commander York said in a statement on Tuesday.

 

"This morning, police initiated a high visibility operation using drug detection dogs to target drug possession in the public areas around the court house."

 

Commander York said investigations were sparked by concerns about the use of drugs and the disposal of syringes around the Taree Court House.

 

Two men, aged 54 and 51, and a woman, aged 37, have each been charged with drug possession.

 

The trio will appear at Taree Local Court on September 7.

Why shouldn't they smoke cannabis outside court? Should be able to smoke it anywhere.

If I am ever arrested for cannabis I plan to try and smuggle in a vaporizer balloon full of marijuana vapour into court and then blow it out everywhere. they would probably evacuate the courtroom as if it was anthrax.

having said that, most of the older stoners ive met are so harmless, i really dont see the problem, i can get why they target the little thugs running around on drugs, but i always think theyd at least leave the older ones alone. i mean at that age theyve probably been smoking most of their life and its not like theyre going to stop now, plus i really doubt they (or most smokers) are out causing problems.

I think its more embarressing to the court, youd be shamed to have something you were against happening ltterally right at your doorstep and realise you had no idea. it would be like some idiot spouting homophobic ideas all day and then being told their son was gay - !

Serves the court right! pot should be a free choice, as long as your not blowing it in the face of kids or anything and its not like they were Smoking on the steps, they just had some on them.
