Pity no mainstream media outlet (that I've seen anyway) has properly quizzed our pollies on drug reform.

In the interview, Ms Gillard refers to former Labor prime minister Bob Hawke's “public battle” with alcohol as evidence Australians did not look to politicians to model lifestyle choices, acknowledging her own use of recreational drugs as a younger woman.

 

“I have been asked before if I have tried marijuana and the answer to that is yes,” she said.

 

“In university, we would go out to the pub and perhaps drink more than we should have on occasions. But that would be the limit of it.”

About time a pollie has admitted having a toke & not be afraid of religious right wing dickheads condemming her for it. Smoke up, Julia....you got my vote!!!

Don't think just because she has smoked pot when younger does not mean she is not against it now. I'd predict she only did it a couple of times, so its not like she was bonging on for years.

 

Remember she knows all her political comrades disapprove.

 

She is not going to advocate legalization or even decriminalization.

 

Though she is a much better step in the right direction than both Rudd or Howard, she has to get voted in yet, and I think the odds are against her.

Australia, as a nation, has become so conservative in its outlook nothing will change for years and years.

 

The attitude to cannabis has hardened considerably to what is was in the 1980's. We were left pretty much alone back then.

Today, we are losing ground on every front.
