Cannabis haul ends in suspended sentence

Recommended Posts

The Perth District Court has sentenced a 35-year-old Banksia Hill man to a two year suspended jail term after he was caught with 30 kilograms of cannabis.

Police found the cannabis in Brendan Gary Earle's car earlier this year.

The estimated street value of the drugs is about $300,000.

Police allege a 51-year-old truck driver imported the drugs from South Australia.

Earle pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply.

I wonder if the poor prick will have to get compulsory "treatment" and get random drug tests to stay out of the slammer. At least he is not in prison, where he could be raped or stabbed, as well as many other unpleasant things.

Something tells me however that with that sort of money involved, he will not be staying away from the business for long.

I remember when my old man was on appeal for a driving offense down at the District court (on appeal from Kogarah go figure) the Magistrate said that he would serve the rest of his sentence as a suspended sentence for four months. My sister burst into tears thinking that the old man would stay in Silverwater for another 4 months!

I will never forget her face after some gentle reassuring that dad would be coming out that afternoon for a couple of beers. Really though, prison ain't that bad of what my old man told me haha. He was only in for a little bit but he seems to have made a few lasting friendships...kinda like highschool really!

Hi huckler,

I agree with you, with the quantity of 30kg thats over 60 pound and a suspended sentence!!!!! WTF

Who was the judge? Was it his Birthday or something? who made what sort of a deal for that? there had to be more circumstances behind it for the light sentence. If not then WTF???

Am I the only one who thinks that this sentence is a little light given the quantities involved?

I'm certainly not complaining but wow, what do you have to do for a jail term?

Get caught with a tonne?

Nope. Grass and yeah shall be set free. No one gets to walk with 30kg when others are being put inside for a few plants. He know doubt got very good references in a back room plea deal.
