New group pushes hemp growing

A new association has been created to break down the barriers to the growing of hemp in Tasmania.

The Industrial Hemp Association has been formed to bring farmers, researchers, processors and end users together as a combined force to change the laws that restrict growing and consumption of hemp in Australia.

Association president and Bishopsbourne farmer, Phil Reader, says industrial hemp organisations are being formed in other states as well, to bring about a change to the laws.

"Throughout the western world, industrial hemp is able to be consumed as a human food except in Australia," he says.

"That's the number one issue, because we are going to be overtaken by other countries that are producing this and developing the products, and we are going to be left behind the eight-ball."

Yep , and this is Good News :)

I'm pretty sure I read just recently that the Australian government will vote to approve legislation on the issue of Hemp based foods towards the end of this year (September I think)

(Sorry I canna remember all the details right now but If I find the story again I'll post it :()

SO , slowly but surely I guess there is progress being made ...

With the vote on an Australian Hemp Food Industry looming (and looking positive so far) ...

and California Voting for Legalization for even recreational use in November ...

It certainly is an exciting year for Cannabis Enthusiasts no doubt

That's even leaving out the rest of the US , Europe and other World-Wide happenings , like for example Germany (Berlin) atm considering raising their allowable "small amount" of Cannabis from 10gms to 15gms  Cool aye.

And much more ofc.

Well , Cheerz for the News ... Let's keep our fingers crossed and our Cola's Sinsemella for Luck! :)

Budman :)

change the laws that restrict growing

yes the rules are very restrictive. Easier to grow poppies. I was thinking about renting some land and obtaining a license, a couple of years ago. But the restrictions are to strict. Why would industrial hemp have to be grown 5 kilometres away from any school and not be allowed to be visible from any public street, yet poppies can be grown without such crap.

Hate to sound like a broken record. But I've been saying this for the best part of 20 years. We've got all the elements in our favour to capitalise on the Hemp Industry. But the powers that be (Pollies and other Prohibitionists) have made sure to stop this from happening. Fucken Wankers.. :peace:

what is Australia afraid of. Money... it's hemp what is that a gateway to legalisation... No fucking relidgious old men no sense of their own they are all afraid of what all the other old men will say and what their mothers told them. Drugs are bad hemp is evil... notice to all pollies hemp is an industrial material that has thousands of uses except for been smoked. Legalise hemp whats the problem. Tasmania is the world's largest producer of opium alkaloids for the pharmaceutical market. Opium ??? heroin ??? hemp ???? cannabis.. Fuck ACT is where the pollies HQ is and weed is decriminalised...
