Approach to buying supplies

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

There is some really good advice here both in this thread and on this site in general. The key word is research, research and if you've got the time research. Make a list of what you need and research it, know what you are talking about when you go to purchase and don't ask the store attendant. "Most" of us will help if we can and we have a wealth of knowledge.ASK US!!!

As for Flatcat comments, we all need assistance at some point and sure the questions may have been asked before and they will be asked again. So what?? If you have the answers, then help. If not then, shut up but don't give people shit for asking, cos next time you have a question you may get your own answer back "I get the shits at lazy fuckers not doing their research and asking others to do it for them." That's a pigheaded attitude to have. Many of us have learnt from experience and no research can pass that on.

Assist or shut up.

Like most of the guys have said, do some research and itemise exactly everything you want, then go get it. Hydro store owners see all sorts and won't bat an eyelid at you... unless they can smell a sucker, like any good saleperson. Know what you want, lest you be duped into buying stuff you don't need. You're more at risk of being stung for a dollar then being sussed out as a grower over the counter.

1. Shop Owners want to increase there business, I hardly think any Hydro owner is going to forward on any information to ANYONE.

2. As for shops being owned or operated by the cops.....well it makes for a great story.

I wouldn't park your car out the front just in case the cops are doing the rounds and taking down plate numbers.

I use Mastercard at the hydro shop. The cops have no legal right to seconder records unless the shop is doing illegal shit like selling clones ETC. Deal with a reputable shop and you will have no problems.

This is off topic a bit, but you might find this story interesting. I'd been taking pictures on my digital camera, which included a couple of pics of some MALE MJ plants. (Obviously worth nothing!) About fifty other pictures of normal family scenes.

My photo printer broke down, and, forgetting I had pictures of cannabis on my memory card, I took it into Harvey Norman to get processed and some rat fink who worked there, saw a picture of a plant and dobbed me in to the cops.

Got in to all sorts of trouble and ended up in court...fined and convicted

Shit, that is a seriously unfortunate tale Mistyville.

I don't think it's off topic at all. It underlines the need to be extra careful at all times with retailers, some of who (like that prick in the photo lab) must be waging their own personal crusade in the 'war on drugs'. :afro:

I'm glad I asked the question now. I really thought that lighting & gardening suppliers would be aware that a fair % of their custom would be for growing weed, and that they'd be cool enough to give you advice if you needed any. I guess you've gotta play it by ear, but I'll now be assuming that they won't be.

For the record, I believe I have assimilated enough knowledge here and in other forums to go in and order shit like I know what I'm doing

All it comes down to is common sense, first few times i went to my now "local hydro shop" i didnt say boo, next few times ya get abit more chatty  n now im even gona be swappin clones with him  Tell ya truth im hopin they might ask me if i want a job
Common sense is not blurting out how you're going about sourcing clones in a public forum, within Australia.

And people wonder why more stringent laws are being applied to the Hydroponic Industry. :afro:

Ive only recently just purchased a new setup PHC, and tbh I did a good 2 months research online on what I'd exactly need before I went into any shop and started asking questions. It is how I ended up here and OSA is where I found most of the info I needed too :afro:

It turned out that the shop I did go to were a great bunch of guys and have been more than helpful. Bottom line trust your gut instinct. If you feel something isn't right or aren't sure how the shop staff will be then don't say a thing or maybe try a different shop

Hi PHC!

Firstly, kudos on handling yourself here with dignity.

Another option is to order online with a pre-paid credit card and have the goods delivered to somewhere other than your grow addy. If nothing else, price may drive you in this direction - check out the deals that can be had on ebay. Many of the hydro stores on ebay take phone orders etc also.

Even Cervantes advocates spreading your purchases between hydro shops and parking a little distance away if buying physically.

I'm personally not this cautious, but perhaps I should be :afro:
