Sunpulse lamps

Hi all.

 

Just thought I'd throw in an early review of the sunpulse lamps. There are a few mixed reviews out there, but I thought I'd update this as ozstoners seems to rank pretty high on google.

 

I'm running a 400w Lumatek digi ballast with a 400w 3k sunpulse in my cab. I'll flip to the 10k in a couple of months before harvest. So far I'm happy with what this is doing. My haze has about 20 decent baby bud sites on her already early into flower even though she's bonsai'd for the cab. The DNA pure Afghan I'm running is a little behind, but she was started later and I've recently overnuted her. I'll update pics of her when she's looking prettier.

 

The consensus seems to be that these bulbs reduce yield a fraction, but increase potency, so they seem suited for non-commercial grows where quantity isn't a top priority.

 

Its shaved a decent amount of temp off over a 400w HPS in my cab.

 

I'll keep you updated - even though I'm by no means doing a proper side-by-side with HPS.

The consensus that these bulbs reduce yield a little but increase potency is about right at this time because of one limiting factor. There is no e-ballast in Australia that runs these lamps to their full potential. The e-ballasts here all suffer with the same problem which is high total harmonic distortion (200 - 400%). The operating arc of a lamp should be a perfect arc with the gases swirling around it. This does not happen with a high THD ballast. The arc is distorted and does not produce maximum output. I've been told SunPulse matched Very High Frequency plant growth digital ballasts will arrive soon. Then we will see growth equal to or better than HPS with increased potency. I'm looking forward to that.
