Having some respiratory problems

Aztek

Question

Its been 2 weeks since I started smoking cannabis as an alternative way to manage my daily pains I live with due to a medical condition. The reason I chose cannabis was because I have a hypersensitivity to opiates and I experience adverse reactions every time I was taking my opiate based pain medication.

With cannabis I haven't had this problem but instead I have found my chest and lungs feeling uncomfortable and I developed a cough and wheezing sound when I breathe so I freaked out and stopped smoking. I am now in the process of looking to buy a quality vaporizer but I was wondering does the respiratory symptoms settle down eventually ?

Also I want to invest in a quality vaporizer like the volcano but for some stupid reason there aren't any shops in Australia that sell it, the only ones I can find is the vapirs brand and other cheaper looking things. I found one online website based in Australia that stocks Volcanos based at www.australianvaporizers.com.au I was wondering if anyone else has made a purchase from them before? or if there are any other Aussie based outlets that stock the volcano ?

I have the digital volcano that i purchased from www..vapfiend.co.uk. It cost me around 700 aussie bux!! The euro is very high so it might be a bit cheaper now. It arrived in 14 days in perfect nick!! They are quite expensive but are well worth it!!And if you do get one make sure you vap at the right temps, just post athread and i'm sure all the vap users will give their 100 different temps!!:bongon:!! Make sure you get the easy valve system!!!ALSO DON"T get one from the usa as they use a different voltage to us, the ones from europe or the uk only require a travel adapter or get the one from the aussie site it is probably wired to fit our sockets so you won't need an adapter.!! i also have a iolite portable handheld vap wich is great when your on the go! got it in nimbin for 199 bux at the shop called bringabong.I had a look at the site and it looks legit(780bux + postage for the easy valve system) and postage would be alot quicker!!Anyways hope this helps cheers Wietlover :D

Hey Aztec.

Before handing out big dollars for a volcano - is there any way you can test to see if this will be a proper long term solution for you? I don't know what your condition is, but if it is something like CF that already has lung complications, then you might find that a vape acts as an irritant for you also.

The 2nd hand option mentioned here might be a good one for you if you can't borrow one for a test.

Personally, I'd try before you buy however you can. The other alternative here, of course, is ingestion if pain management is your focus. Brewing up some butter or oil completely eliminates the need for inhalation.

Make sure you get the easy valve system!!!

Why the easy valve system ? I was actually considering the solid valve because I don't want any ongoing costs so I wanted to be able to use cheap oven bags as replacement, but if you have valid reason for suggesting otherwise I will consider it.

Thanks everyone for the help, I will go ahead with purchasing from that site and let yous know how it turns out, I was going to buy a classic volcano only cause its $180 cheaper then the digital and I am on a budget but is it worth waiting to save up extra cash to get a digital volcano instead ?

Paladin, I would have loved the option to try before buying however it just wasn't possible and ingesting is something I have considered but it would end up being more expensive as I would need larger amounts for that then vaporizing and also as I mentioned my sensitivity to opiates I also have problems if I accidentally have a little too much cannabis so for me controlling the exact dose every time is a priority and to eating it scares the shit out of me because I don't know much is too much and if I accidentally have a dose that causes me a reaction then the effects apparently last longer ingested then smoking. But as long as I have exactly the right dose every time I'm fine.

To be honest, Aztek. It's near impossible to give any helpful advice due to lack of information about your respiratory history. Like have you smoked tobacco in the past, do you suffer from asthma, bronchitis or any other respiratory conditions?

Also, are you growing your own supply or buying off a dealer. Have you any idea on what chemicals and processes are used to grow the cannabis etc. Maybe the cannabis might have mold spores in it if your getting your supply from someone else, as there seems to be trend for a few people to supply damp/wet cannabis nowadays. Do you smoke the cannabis straight or do you spin it out (add tobacco or similar).

As you might see there's quite a few variables that maybe contributing to your current respiratory condition. As far as I know, there's are no Lung Specialists frequenting this forum, that could offer any proper professional information. So due to all that, the only helpful advice i can offer, is like what Paladin offered. Drop the idea of smoking or vapourising your cannabis for now and take the canna food option. Like make yourself some cannabutter and prepare food, using the butter. In the Cannaversity section of this site, there's quite a few recipes that will give you some ideas.

Other than that, possibly see a Specialist and/or have a break until the condition subsides. As you know, you can't do much about your health once your in that box.

Anyway, whatever happens. I hope your symptoms clear up soon enough. :D

Get a vaporiser mate, Purple Days best vaporiser i've ever used.

www.purple-days.com

You can also get a portable one its called the launch box just google it.

The other thing you can do is grow your own and make some hash oil and just administer that on a daily basis usually 1 or 2 drops every 4 hrs I think, google rick simpson for more info on that.

Cannabis is illegal in the state where I live in Australia unfortunately my only option is to buy it and as much as I would like to be able to grow it its not going to happen as I live with my folks due to my disability. The weed I have been buying has varied in strains but every bud was well dried and seemed vibrant, clean and mold free. So far I was only smoking joints and using a minimal couple sprinkles of tabaco to help it burn. Water pipes are not an option for me, without getting to much into my complicated medical history: I have a neurological condition due to a damaged Autonomic nervous system which results in hypersensitivity to all depressant and stimulative substances, opiates being the worst which is why I made the swap to cannabis to manage my ongoing pains. Although Cannabis adverse reactions are not as severe as opiates I still have to keep to a strict minimal dose which is why I chose joints as I can count the amount of tokes I have and gain full control over the dose.

With ingesting I don't think I can have as much control, I am hoping a vaporizer will give me the same control ? I have already went ahead and put in an order for a Volcano yesterday from that Australian website after "konflikt" and "Dingo 2008" confirmed the site was legit. My wheezing has settled however I thought the issues I had was just due to the irritating effects of smoke inhalation but it seems not everyone experiences that ?

Ahh ok, fair enough. You're right about the canna food option, it can be a bit hard to manage the doses, and vaporising does offer you more control. But just something for consideration. What build up you see in the bag after multiple uses, is also what is entering your lungs. I'm not saying that is good, bad or otherwise. As it's the great unknown at this stage. Many will argue it's harmless, but I personally don't know that for sure, myself. At best, it's gotta be less harmful than joints, bongs, blunts, pipes, etc..

Also, you'll probably find that cannabis is illegal throughout Australia. It's just up to the individual if they're prepaped to cross that line. I'll alway have cannabis in my life 'n no legislation is going to stop me longterm. :D

Anyway, hope all turns out well and you're happy with your purchase, Aztek.
