carbon filters

Recommended Posts

hey guys and gals

Just got a few questions about carbon filters, i plan to buy a centrifugal fan with it so i don't get issues with inadequacy in air flow

1) how well do they work? do they do a good job at eliminating odor.

2)how long do they last?

3)is a carbon filter it something i will be replacing once a year? more frequently or do they just keep going and going?

4)is there a way to clean the smell out of a carbon filter and "rejuvenate" it?

thanks for your help ppl

Hey man, Carbon filters work great and cut ya noise by 75% :D

From what im told can last up to 3 years and also told u can buy the carbon to change over at that time, But to be honest 3 years of growin reckon pays it self 1000 fold :D. Ill just fork out the 330 bux in few years time n replace for piece of mind. Is the number 1 item apart from blacking out ya windows that gona keep ya ass outa the can :D

3 years! dam i thought maybe a year, and replacing the carbon...cant see the point it would have payed for its self over above and beyond the call of duty, time for a new one

Was thinking of a 150x500 carbon filter suspended from the roof inside the tent, then ducting to my cool tube then from my cool tube to a 150mm centrifugal fan then out one of the ports. it should be sucking through the filter, past the 600w hps in the cool tube, then through the fan and exhausting clean air...i hope ^_^

saw the filter for 150 and the fan for 170

Scout out all the places that you can get the proper grade of activated carbon...not that fish tank stuff.

Then scout out all the places that sell a decent refillable filters...check the grade of carbon used in these filters and make sure it all lines up.

If that's too hard do what i do. get an odor sock for less than $100 they last about 8 months to a year depending on how humid your grow room is. there cheap and re-usable if u have a clothes dryer. humidity kills any carbon filter...fast, so odor socks can be stuffed in your dryer to re-activate.

The point is, carbon filters die....so dont spend the world...i think odor socks are the cheapest option and they work perfectly, not a smell comes out of my tent, not a single smell at all..and they do a bonza job at reducing the fan noice... FYI i use a 200mm centri fan so its kinda loud without a filter.

Point is carbon filters last heeps longer and r 1000% better at reducing smell if ya got more than 3 plants.

If ya only got 1 or 2 plants yer sock will do ya job. But gota disagree with em being as good as a carbon filter this is just not true. 330 bux for the tip top filter and to keep my ass outa jail , extra piece of mind plus experience with both of em has made my mind up. Think 99% of peeps will agree there. ^_^

Saying that 330 bux is for a 250mm by 1.2 meter filter which is fuckin huge, smaller ones do cost considerably less

if u wanna fuck around go the odorsok

if u wanna set and forget go the carbon filter

its just with the odorsoks u need to reactivate em at 2 months and 6 months i think

its a royal pain in the arse getting ya fan down

stripping the tape, washing the filter and reactivating in the dryer

i prefer the carbon filters as they last longer and are alot less maintenance

make sure u get a fan rated a bit bigger than ya filter

well thats wat i do anyways

all the best
