humidity and thermometer controllers fans etc

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Thanks GH will give the heatmat a berl tonight and see how it goes.

Thanks for your thoughts to Naycha - I found the same thing when I was looking at blow heaters that the wattage is bloody high. The oil column heater I got from Big W is 5 columns and on the medium setting uses 500 watts (high setting is 1000 watts) and that only refers to the speed at which it heats up as it has a dial thermostat as well. Apart from safety, I think the advantage with these too is that once they heat up, they dont have to be powered up all the time to radiate heat - their inbuilt thermostat switches them back on when it does cool down but that takes a long time. And it only cost me about 30 bucks too so Im happy with that.

cheers,

Morphine

thanks for your help Brick50. Just wondering what temps you are running at with your cab when you grow? Do you get purple buds forming - reason I ask being that I read a few posts from people who said that a bit of cold is not too bad for the plants and that it turns the buds purple - dont know why thats important but hey what the hell!

Also, to answer your question, I have a concrete floor in the shed. I also have a heatmat now as Grasshopper suggested which I hope will help keep the roots warm.

cheers,

Morphine.

Cold nights, after lights off temp can drop to 10oc or colder. I have heater tape (used in the refrigeration industry) wrapped around the pots not flush on the pots just loosley to take some of the chill off the air. I think the purple buds can happen from very cold nights or days with frosts. Out doors only. Never had it happen indoors. My cab temps can go from 10oc cold weather up to 35 in warmer weather. I have a big 150 mill fan as main exhaust, thermostatically controlled. The t/stat is set to come on at 26oc and switch off at 23 or 24 depending on conditions. When the main fan switches off (t/stat is single pole double switching)then a small computer fan set into the door comes on when the main fan goes off. I just like to keep air moving through the cabinet at all times. Too cold slows down the growth rate.

Summer night temps in cab get as high as 36o with a 400watt hps. I also put some polystyreene sheets under the pots just to keep them off the cold floor. I would not worry too much about humidity more about cold nights.

My method may not suit you as everyone has their own systems and methods that they are comfortable with. You just need to find out what is best for you, if you don't want to use seeds for experimenting then have a trial run with tomatoes. At least it will give you an idea of whats good and whats not going to work.

Have fun and don't get too stressed if things don't work out, the plants pick up on stress coming from you. Well thats what I reckon. I also don't use cold tap water I put a bucket in with the plants so the water is the same temp as the room. Then water. From what I have read and learned in here is to let the plants tell me when they are thirsty and when to use nutes. Too much love fucks them. Good luck and have fun. ^_^

Hey Brick,

Yeah I take on board what you say about not stressing around the plants. Although I must admit it reminds me of my mum playing classical music to her plants and saying it makes them grow better. I use to laugh my head off at her for that but hey if it gives me more buds maybe I'll give that a berl too!

I was interested in your thermostat - single pole double ?? Does that mean you operate two devices off it? Can you show me an example? I have a thermostat that turns the fan on when it reaches a certain temp (has a cooling v heating switch for either mode) and then off when it gets below that point. is that what you are talking about?

cheers

Classical music? Might try that :). Single pole double throw means you have an active in and it can switch two things (be it fans or what ever)on singly. You have say a main fan running and at a certain temp it will switch off and then switch on a small fan. Not sure about the heating/cooling switch. Only way is to give it a try, be fucking careful though, if you are not to sure on electrics maybe ask someone at an electrical wholesaler for help/advice. Make up a good story for wanting to connect up something or other. Have a look around in here, cabinet construction etc there is some really good stuff that has been pinned. :peace:
