recirculating problems

Recommended Posts

Canna Vega and Flores is all you need. Anything that needs potash added is a load of crap, nutes should come complete. Get an additive if you want. Also don't worry about the oxyplus, unless you have bad water or you get a diesease, ie pythium, you wont need Oxyplus, it can damage cells in the plants roots apparently, instead buy an airpump and chuck some airstones in your resevoir. Saying that I am currently using Oxyplus on my crop, but my water is truly disgusting, other than that it has rotted away on my shelf since forever. Also it brings your pH down pretty bad, pretty good thing sometimes, If your a DWC grower and want pH 5.5, but if your a normal hydro grower, after adding oxyplus to 100ltrs or so, you will have to add some pH up to get back to 6.3 I would think.

As for this flood and drain shit, use pots, square ones, 180mm by 320mm Black Square pots. You fit 16 of the cunts into a 90 x 90 tray, and can grow way bigger plants than without pots, the trays only have a couple of cm in depth, you would need small plants, like 25 to 36 per 90x90 tray, with no veg, and some strains just won't do that and yield decent bud. Buds are much thicker and denser after a week or two of veg.

Also fuck Hydroton, unless you are gonna top feed you will only get roots in the inch or two of area where the water comes to. Use a nice perlite vermiculite mix and water 3 or so times a day. Hydroton isn't made for that kind of crap, Flood and Drain needs a medium that wicks water well.

A good method with the trays is to use hydroton, top feed though 4mm tube (no drippers), and keep the water level up all the time, and add some air to the water with airpump(s).

well i've decided to change things around and use the table for a run to waste system like toms. i can fit 25 8" pots in there (still can't find any suitable square pots) just had too many probs with the recirc.

wil be using affgani #1 its really strong shit. shiskaberry #3 the preflowers on this really stink, but i haven't flowered out yet so advice on flowering would be great. and spc indica, this is the sweet tooth dominant which i have only flowered once, the black domina dominant pheno i had was lost by a mate.

i've also had problems whith these little fuckers infesting the root systems in my pots, they slowly weaken the plant and growth slows heaps. its gotten alot worse in the last wek so i went down to the shop and told the guy about the bugs and how they evolve into these black flys with long skinny wings, he told me they were scaradflys or fungas gnats. well whatever they are they are dying right now in a tub of scaradfly drench. i took the plants out of the pots and imeresed in the diluted solution, thats pretty heavy shit as it makes your skin tingle if you get any on. i'm told to let the roots soak for 24 hours then clean water for 4 hours and they will be dead, we'll see.

thanks for the advice white cluster

when you said top fed with no drippers, do u mean just 4mm tubing straight to the bottom stem? cus thats what i was doing in the other 3 pot system and had probs there too so ill b changing that to large veg area for now.

do you think a perlite/vermiculite mix could wick to the top of a pot thats 10 inches deep if the flood is only say 3 inches at the bottom?

tigger make sure you flush that drench out.....Ive used it and Id never use it again.....it can wipe out your foliage of your plants...and thats not good for growth

the foliage has already started to look shithouse from th gnats, they have been around for a month or so, i tried some weaker stuff, pyrethrin and insecticidal soaps and they diddn't work, i'll flush the roots heaps and repot after the drench has done its work.

imo fungus nats dont do that much damage...they do some damage for sure but that drench is a last resort...after you have tried everything else..and even then...I use fly spray...spary the active flies over 2-3 days and it basically kills them,,,,

It should say on the drench to flush it out of your system after 24 hours?

I didnt..thought it would work better by leaving it in longer...but it killed 80% of the available leaves

hey tigger I got them things as well I think. I got some of those self watering pots with soil and when I take the tray out, there's these little crawlies jumping around in the water. I've had them around for months though, there were in the soil of my first grow as well. Sometimes they seem to go away and then come back in full force. Occasionally I spray em with something.

I also got spidermite which came on the SPC clones. I gave my plants a drenching in pyrethrum spray once a few weeks back and they seemed to dissappear for a while but are now back. I gave them another spray of pyrethrum and then a spray of water to try and counteract burn under the lights. They're only under fluoros, but I did get a little burn last time. I will repeat this for about 4 days and see if that finishes them off.

i also just found i had spidermites hanging out in one of my areas, it just hasn't been a good start for me since coming back to canberra. i read somewhere that spraying with water especially on the underside of leaves once every day can be a great way to rid them, also if you can raise the humidity to over 80% for a few days they will explode. if all else fails the last resort is a flea bomb, but not when within 3 weks of harvest. the gnats are really disgusting things, mine are grey/brown and are about the size of a pin head, they hang around a couple inches below the surface and eat roots and organic matter, then they turn into black flys with long slender wings and sit around on the leaves. i wish they would all piss off.

not straight to the stem but straight to the pot, I imagine you got some stem rot, esp if you cloned in rockwool.

After spraying pplants simply leave em out till they dry, water will burn the fuck out of your plants even more than most pesticides, cos it beads on the leaves.

dont use nasty shit on ya MJ,

Go for H202 or oxyplus in your nutes and spray the plant and any pests with Neem oil,

the neem causes the parasite(insects) too starve to death, they will not eat anymore of the plant as they wont eat the neem you sprayed on them,

Pyrethium and pythoff etc are only to kill pyhtium only,

since i have used oxyplus and neem I havent had any pests.
