Cannabis Laws Relaxed

Recommended Posts

It could soon be legal to posses up to 15 grams of cannabis in Berlin. At the moment it's 10 grams and usually 6 grams for the rest of Germany. In Italy, Spain, Portugal etc., it is a "small amount". It's 3 grams in Belgium, 5 grams in The Netherlands and 20 cannabis cigarettes in The Czech Republic.

What is the legal maximum in Australia? ... ZERO!!!

As I said on another thread, this is really does my head in. 15 years ago, places like South Australia had some of the most lenient cannabis laws in the western world whilst the US was all "zero tolerance". Now there seems to have been a polar flip and we are going backwards while the rest of the world is going forward. Lately, a disproportionate amount of "anti cannabis" studies are coming from here, australia and all that talk of mental illness and cannabis seems to originate form our country. you hardly ever hear such refer madness studies from the US these days.

What is causing this? What happened in this country over the last decade that caused us to go all hardcore on the weed? I am honestly stumped, I dont know where we went wrong but it seems as if legalization is a political impossibility in this country now, even if the rest of the world legalizes. Lately I have been finding more and more that there is a hatred of cannabis and the people that use it in this country, even some people that use it seem to talk about it as if its bad and they should probably stop. 10 years ago, peole would openly smoke out the front door of the pub and the worst that would happen is some of the drinkers would make a joke about it. There has been a massive shift in views and I dont know if that can easily be reversed or if were doomed to be the place were weed will always be evil :D

It's the rubber-band effect. Given that we, like a nation of good sheeple blindly follow the U.S. (we do have the same masters after all) then what they do, we will eventually do, it just takes a few more years to kick in. So 20-30 years ago the yanks were more hard core than us, we followed them a few years later, now that there seems to be a slight glimmer of hope and common sense over there in this regard then in 15 to 20 years we will have followed them to THAT place. Don't hold out hope for any leadership in this country, real leaders are quashed at the very outset of their ambitions and those that do achieve leadership do so based on their connections and complicity with those who are pulling the strings and not on any real merits that they might otherwise posses.

Unles the WHOLE system is turned on it's arse nothing will change in that regard. When the idiots at govcorp see pot legalisation as a vote winner, then you will see some action.

Here's a thought. Could it be that Australia is now more in tune with China, Indonesia, Malayasia and all around that area, they have all become major trading regions with Australia. Now would it not be in the benifit of trade relations to please these countries in any way we can. Most or all these countries have severe penalities for cannabis (the herb not a drug) and all other drugs. Just a thought that it could be pandering to these countries as well as other political goings on.

Being hard line on any drug, but picking the easy targets. Like us people in here.

Just another way at looking at it! :D

Ah yes ... another brilliant write up from the Heroin diaries :(

I didn't notice the other day that this post was from a new user ... seemingly mr Terry Wright himself?

If so ... G'day man and Welcome.

(I often read the AHD blog ... it is by far the best 'drug-related Blog' from Australia I have seen ... if not , (and I'm not being patriotic) ... the whole damned Interweb! :) )

Anyhoo , keep up the good work mate ... ya certainly deserved that "best Blog" award , No Worries.

As for the topic ... It certainly is grand to think that Berlin (yes , of all places) may soon have the most lax Cannabis laws in Europe ... Fucken Awesome really ... that will pave the way for the rest of Europe if it hasn't already been completely paved. I'm sure we'll be updated when/if it happens. :)

A few of the comments I found interesting ... plz permit me to reply ... (too late suckers! :D) heheheh ...

Hey Roach , 20-30 years !!! :( ... man , and I thought I was a little pessimistic ...

You do know that 30-40 years ago people (advocates) were thinking the exact same thing? :P ...

Seems like the Politicians/ReligiousConservatives breed amongst themselves and there are STILL many a 'dinosaur' in parliment no doubt and probably will be for a very long time ... but look around the globe and wonder ... was there ever a time where a FEW of these old conservatives were actually Changing their Opinions/Stance so much as today? ... with such an effect?

I think not ... and It's definatly pleasing to see and hear. :D

(I otherwize agree with you ofc ... but sheesh , I'll be here all night if I types everything I'd like to , heheh ...)

Bloodshot_eyes , very well put ... I know many (especially from SA) that hold the same perplexities ...

I have 2 theories ...

1) This sound like 'conspiracy theory' but so so does alot of things ...

Australia has become a training ground for the US/UN ... we will be the ones 'testing out' the NWO , with our Drug and Police Laws ... With our Internet and Art censorship ... and eventually with our 'smart-card money' and RFID chips ... lets put (working 'Families First'!) :P ... and that's just a few basic points ...

2) And this one allows/allowed for point #1 ...

As a generalization ... we have had a pretty good run being in this country ... Apathy becomes ...

Were we all to 'satisfied' or did the populous just stop trying because everything was so easy? ...

When the laws were slowly tightened , before such prevelance of Internet usage and ''opinion' as it stands today ... did anyone give a flying holler? (besides the absolute of the dedicated?) ...

Maybe it is both these things in one form or another ... I'm not sure , too high and feeling good to care much at the moment (uh-oh , damn apathy! :) ) ... heheh , but I don't see many other varying factors involved right now ...

What IS happening ... is a general awakening on this issue and many others (yes , they said this in the 60's too , heheh) ... never have I seen so much 'News' on such a seemingly 'minor' topic ... and It's Global. No Doubt.

Nooby , I like your reply ... a bit cynical maybe but for damn good reasons ofc ...

I'll just say that ... EVEN if the Canna-laws change tomorrow ... my oh my ... we have a shitload of other fuckededness to go through aswell , arguably 'stuff' that is Much Much more detrimental to humanity as we know it. I hope that if and when the Canna-laws change then just that initself will be a pre-cursor to even greater change as 'Stoners' slowly reclaim the Earth they are bound to. :D

And Brick , I found that very interesting ... just because it provoked my thoughts ...

We are indeed an "Eastern" Nation as per the geography ... And the original land dwellers are Asian too ...

Even this part of the globe is named continentally as "Australasia" ofc ...

The Gov-Corp certainly is trying to keep tight relations with other countries in the 'district' and so therefore it has to be questioned if the AUS Gov is pandering to the wants of more brutal regimes in regards to drug laws. (There has been plenty a story lately about our government and law enforcement sects possibly giving over TOO MUCH information to Indonesian authorities along with other countries also) ...

FREE SCHAPELLE DAMMIT!!! :P

I think this is ALSO the case ... and out of all the points suggested so far ... the only one I'm not 100% on is if we Are or are Not being used as the proverbial 'Guinea Pig' as an experiment for early introduction of the NWO's regime ... which in itself btw , is ofc not fantasy ... but hard and uneasy reality. :)

Well , there's some of my thoughts ... It was enlightening ...

If you don't want to read all of this ... well then , you should SKIP This Reply Right Now! ... too easy.

Cheerz! :(

Budman :P

I wonder when we will change. People here think that it is gonna be another 20-30 years before they legalise one of the most helpful plants on the planet. I think, and this is just a newb's personal opinion, that if the culture can gather enough social inertia, that we can shorten that time period quite considerably.

Just a thought.

"What is causing this? What happened in this country over the last decade that caused us to go all hardcore on the weed?"

Tyrants can only do what their slaves allow them to. Australians are cheap to buy off. Give them an election every so often with no real choices, some televised sport, a crappy colour and movement media and lots of distractions.

As the Dao De Jing says: Keep the peoples' minds empty and their bellies full.

QED.
