Common Nutes and My personal reveiws

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I just thought I would share some thoughts about the different nutes I have been trying. As some of you know I'm a bit of an experimenter and I like to try new things.

Here is my setup, I have two flood drain tables, One for veg one for flower. Veg is 2' X 4' and flower is 4' X 6' and I grow in 4 Inch Rockwool cubes

So far I have tried a few very popular (at least in Canada anyways) nutes.

FloraNova -Semi Organic

NutraPlus - Non Organic

Dutch Master - Non organic

FloraNova is priced at around 75$ in Canada and is one of the more expensive nutes around. I found the solution goes a really long way but is very thick. Not so good for traditional top feed, DWC or flood drain setups because it is a pain in the ass to clean all the parts every week. It is a one part solution that is very complete and I had no issues with it. Just make sure you SHAKE the bottle well. This nute would be work really well for soilless mixes or something of that nature. One more note on it is that it lasts a really long time. You use very little of it compared to other nutes. The only downside I have found is that you could overdose your plants very easily with it if you don't pay attention to the instructions.

Quality = 8

Ease of use = 5

Best medium = soilless mix

Price Vs amount = 9

Overall 7 out of 10

Next, NutraPlus. I found NutraPlus to be a more standard type of hydroponic solution. Clocking in at 30$ it is defiantly priced to sell. This is a 2 part solution that also seems to be very complete but unlike FloraNova it is not nearly as thick. Reminds me of Optimum nutes. Although you require much more solution per liter of water it still isn't a bad price. You can get about 1 1/2 grows out of it. I find that it is easier to work with than FloraNova and is better suited for Rockwool or hydrotron growing mediums vs. soilless mixes. I did find however for my strains that it contains a bit lower nitrogen content and tends to yellow the leaves during flowering.

Quality = 7

Ease of use = 8

Best medium = Rockwool or similier

Price Vs Amount = 7

Overall 8 of 10

Next was the Dutch master gold series. I approximately 60$ I found it to be a bit on the pricey side. It is an extremely complete solution and produces very fast growing plants. It has a close composition to some of the Canna products. However it does not last very long. I think you could probably get though 1/2 a grow with it.

Quality = 10

Ease of use = 8

Best medium = Rockwool or similar

Price Vs Amount = 4

Overall 6 of 10

Anybody else that has any comments about these or other nutes please feel free to post you results on here. I hope this may be a little bit of a guide for some beginers out there.
